How to: Play SiN on Windows 7 (nVidia Boogaloo Edition!)
This guide will get SiN up and running on a modern PC.
For people who don't already have SiN, buy it off of Amazon or eBay, it's amazing. You could also download it here, but physical CDs c:

INSTALL:

From the start menu, go to computer

Right click on the drive with SIN in it, and open in a new window.

Double click Setup, and in this menu, scroll down until you see this:

Right click, from the drop down menu, select "Properties" and this will pop up:

Click on "Compatibility" and set everything exactly like this:

(RUN DOWN OF SETTINGS:

Compatibility Mode: Tricks the installer into thinking it runs on Windows 98, disabling this will cause the installer to say "DirectX 6 requires Windows 95." The reason for this is because the DirectX 6 is only intended to work on Windows 95\98, correct me if I'm wrong.

Disable Desktop Composition: It fixed an error I had, I don't seem to be able to replicate it, but it fixed it anyways. Keep this on.

Run as Administrator: Does exactly what is says, runs the installer as Administrator. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I originally used it, it worked with the other settings, keep it on)

Start the Setup, keep clicking Yes until it asks you about installing some extra stuff like DirectX 6 and DirectX Media. Deny both of these and any others.

INSTALL COMPLETE, CELEBRATE! :D

Playing the game:

Here comes the tricky part, playing it. So at this point, you're ready to go! With high hopes, you click the shortcut, boot up the game and the colours are messed up, but this is easy to fix. Wait until you get to a screen where it asks for your name. You can either enter one or just hit enter to stick with the default, "blade".

Click "Game", then "Video Options", and change "Renderer" to "OpenGL", scroll down and click "Apply Changes". Your screen will flash, but the colors are fixed, but you're stuck in Software Renderer. This leads to a horrible looking game, and we don't want that when we can get much better quality, now do we?

First, download this patch here if you get 1.00 on the game menu, or this patch here if you get 1.01 on the game menu. No special settings here, just run and patch.

After patching the game, download [http://sin.nanoaugur.net/sinpatcher.exe]this[/url] and put it in the directory where you installed SiN, run it and this will pop up:

Image

Put in your native resolution (start button, search for resolution, click the first result, and type what shows up in this box:

Image

An example would be this:

Image

Click "Apply Resolution", doing this will patch the games .exe to run in whatever resolution was specified in that program, just be sure to select 1152x864 in-game.

So, now you have your native resolution! Too bad Software Renderer is still your only option, but we'll fix that. :3

Go to where you installed the game, and change this:

To this:

Click "OK".

Start up SiN, and navigate back to the options menu, but this time, select 1152x864 as your resolution and OpenGL as your Renderer, click "Apply Changes" and bam! The game won't crash nor change back to its default resolution! Enjoy SiN.
