DreamSnes With Full Snes Set Update Information

DreamSNES is a Super Nintendo emulator based on Gary Henderson's Snes9X. It runs directly on the Dreamcast hardware without using any SEGA or Microsoft libraries. It has been completely developed using free tools. DreamSNES was created by Marcus Comstedt, Peter Bortas, and Per Hedbor.

Our release of Dreamsnes comes on two cd's, the compilation has over 800 roms (all USA) pre-installed to the image so when you're ready you can pick up n play!

Burning Notes: Burn the image with your faithful image burning software at a slow speed and pop into your good old Dreamcast (Yep, its a selfbooting image).

Games run about 90% with this emu, so some games can be quite slow. The Mega/Genesis emu is much better, if your not looking to play snes exclusives only.

I'm not sure if you can save for every game in this. I was playing Chrono Trigger for an hour, but found myself unable to save, so I have to start all over again next time. It doesn't auto save in Chrono except for when you name yourself, and even then it doesn't let you load it, it just takes 2 blocks up on your VMU. I also tried the option of turning off auto and doing the quit to menu save, but that didn't work as well.

This emu also has 800 roms, but where's Earthbound? I can't find it anywhere.

The latest and best emulator is SNES4All has many more features, plays better. Not sure if earthbound is there though.

The English translation for Earthbound is in my SNES4ALL v2 as well as the latest emulator files and a best of ROM's collection with all files working.

There is the CDI version if you need the SD card version I also did that as well.

This emulator is working, but is slow. I've tested a few games. Some games not working like Star Fox. I'm guessing it's the way the games are coded or something? :S

Menu looks nice and easy to use, music is a little strange for my taste. Some games are a too slow to play well such as the SHMUPS(R-type, UN Squadron). To my surprise Super Punch-Out is playable =D. Used Alcohol 120% 6 trial version, lowest speed, Write: RAW DAO, Datatype: Play Station and used cheap cd-r’s.

This set works very well on my NTSC Dreamcast. I used Discjuggler with the usual parameters in place (10x speed, all miscellaneous items unchecked except for "add post-gap to 3rd party images, TOC: CD-XA, Mode 2, Block 2336, Offset: 0 bytes).

I understand many are in love with SNES4All (and it is a good emulator), but DreamSNES has a few perquisites that make it especially worthwhile. First off, the menu is considerably more polished than the one used in SNES4All; it looks nothing like a PC emulator. Secondly, by holding the analog stick to the right for three seconds, the player can trigger a menu that allows the player to "reset" the "cartridge," switch to the next or previous game in the list, resume the game, or return to the main menu without "resetting" the Dreamcast (I'm using quotations because the Dreamcast has no reset button without modification). By holding the analog stick to the left for three seconds, the player can return to the main menu. This is also an option to quit the emulator,
which returns the player to the Dreamcast menu; this is an important feature because opening the cover during game play does not trigger the Dreamcast menu (regardless of whether the player is using SNES4All or DreamSNES), allowing for a change of discs; the emulator otherwise continues running, leaving a power-off as the only option for a disc change.

The game play is quite smooth for an emulator; I've played the Donkey Kong series, Final Fantasy III (FFVI in Japan), Super Metroid, Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past, and Super Mario World without difficulty. It may be advisable to run the emulator with Mode 7 turned off and music set to mono; the CPU optimization option can speed up a game, though it may cause some to crash, in which case the player should switch it off in the settings menu. The autosave feature is also quite nifty, as it automatically saves the game
any time it detects a change in sram; each game's save file occupies only two blocks on the VMU. Keep in mind that no emulator will run as well as the original hardware, but this really is a great option for DC owners.
