This is Chimp 2.1.6.8 used for installing larger hard drives into an Xbox.

For formating F: and/or G: use http://www.theisozone.com/downloads/xbo ... tioner-13/

For those that have encountered problems with this, sometimes the linux265 file gets a period, the thing in parentheses ( . ) at the end and will cause issues. Just delete the period and all should be good :)

Just confirming this Is the Chimp2618 application install version and is preferable to the Chimp2618 LUD (disc) which I think are what the other downloads here are. So no quick IDE cable swapping necessary if you use this version.

Here's a Step By Step Instruction READ ME file I RE-created that clears out the confusion. I used the instructions that this came with as the base. This is for those who like the the step by step way of doing things.. this is for you. Just copy the following text into a .txt file and save it as READ ME.txt to replace the existing one that this came with. Peace!

CHIMP 2.6.1.8.
==============

Info:

This program runs entirely on your modded Xbox (including v1.6 models without having to use Telnet) to allow you to hotswap the internal hard disk with another, larger, model.

Tools:

- Torx 10, 15 and 20 screwdriver set.
- A molex power splitter.
- A larger & LOCKABLE IDE hard drive or a SATA hard drive if your planning to use a SATA to IDE Converter.

(Check for LOCKED Hard drives ONLY - Xbox compatibility list :http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list)

- A copy of your EEPROM (normally stored in E:\Backup\EEPROM on your Xbox). An official Microsoft controller, NOT a third party one!

Step by Step Instructions:

01. Power off your Xbox and open it up. Connect the molex splitter between both your existing and new hard disks.

02. Set the new hard disk's jumper to Slave.

03. Power up.

04. FTP the Chimp2168 folder into your E:\Apps folder on your Xbox. Don't rename the Chimp2618 folder to anything else or the program won't work!

05. Copy the LinuxBoot.cfg file into the root of the E:\ drive.

06. Ensure you've backed up your EEPROM using your modded dashboard. Normally stored in E:\Backup\EEPROM on your Xbox.

07. With your Xbox on and idle in the dashboard, unplug the IDE ribbon cable from the DVD drive (!) and plug it into the new hard disk.

08. Load Chimp.

09. Select option 1 and scroll down to confirm both drives are detected.

10. Select option 2 to clone your existing files over to the new drive.

11. Once that has completed, select the option to lock the new cloned disk. It will use the backed up EEPROM on the master disk to get the security key.

12. When finished, power off.

13. Put the IDE ribbon back onto the DVD drive and set the new hard drive jumper to master.

14. Unplug the power and IDE cable from the old hard drive and replace with the new larger cloned hard drive.

15. Power on!

So I had two ST32000822A hard drives sitting around and a few unmodded Xbox consoles, so I decided to throw these in two of them. However, both Xbox's are saying that I can't lock these HDDs with Chimp. Am I S.O.L.? One is from 2002 and the other is from 2003.

That HDD is actually listed as the most lockable Seagate HDD so it should lock with Chimp2618. I've never had any problems with it locking any Seagate HDD I've used.

Presumably the status was shown as unlocked and lockable before the clone and as far as you know the clone proceeded correctly. You' then tried to use the the lock slave from MB option and that's when the locking problem, yes?

My thoughts are maybe an issue with something that was on the HDD's prior to use with the Xbox. The technique I've always used was recommended on another Xbox forum long ago: 'bleach' the HDD first. That is: do a complete HDD wipe first using CCleaner or similar drive wiper.

No idea whether this would help here or not but I do it out of habit and, as said, I've not had any issues with Chimp2618 and locking Seagate drives.

I actually got these HDDs from a lot of Ebay a few years back and they were all wiped by the seller. Before I even tried to clone anything, I checked and it said that both weren't lockable, which is seriously bumming me out.

Sadly I don't have any way to wipe these things clean since I don't have a PC with IDE or an adapter.

Thanks for the help, though; I appreciate it.

Many relatively cheap basic USB 3.5" external HDD housings include both SATA and IDE adapters so you can do the wipe via USB. But as said, no guarantee, it would actually solve the locking problem.

I know it is a bit late now to ask whether they are actually shown as being unlocked? I was wondering if perhaps they were already locked by the previous owner's Xbox and that is why Chimp reports it can lock them.

every time I try this I get to where I open Apps. The "Checking please wait" prompt comes up and..then it just sticks there. I've followed the step by step and also ensured there's no period at the end of the linux265 file. Anyone else had this problem?

^ That should have been asked about in the main Xbox forums but there are several possiblities for what is being described. From the description the most obvious answer is that Chimp2618 has not been correctly installed in E:\Apps.

The evidence provided suggests that Chimp2618 either hasn't been unpacked ie. is still 7zipped or has been unpacked incorrectly ie. is in a sub-folder. It needs to be in a single level folder with its default.xbe present for it to be picked up as and displayed in the E:\Apps menu. Rebooting is also required after installing it.

Secondly what is the signifigance of the linux265 file to the problem? No idea but it sounds to me as though Ashevent has mixed it up with the linuxboot.cfg text file. That is the one that needs to be copied (and I do suggest copying rather than moving) to the root of the E:\drive ie. E:\linuxboot.cfg

Just a FYI,whenever you see a option with a X between parentheses,if you want to change the option just select the other option you like and press the right thumbstick. I've found out the hard way.

Ive come across a curious bug which MIGHT effect somebody else. If you have 2 memory units connected to your Xbox controller it will refuse to start the software and hang after the starting screen. just thought i would share just in case anyone else gets stuck ^_^

Everybody coming here should be made aware that whilst this will still work fine Rocky5, in association with Idotsfan who created Chimp2618, has improved and significantly updated the application. You should look for and use Chimp261812 instead.
