No less than six years have gone by before the third installment in the Broken Sword series saw the light of day. The first two games (The Shadow of the Templars and The Smoking Mirror) delved into the Knights Templar and Mayan mythology. This time, George Stobbart and Nico Collard are after the Voynich Manuscript to unravel its mysteries.

The Sleeping Dragon moves away from the 2D point-and-click concept from the earlier games and features a full 3D world, with a camera that does not rotate, but uses fixed cinematic perspectives, combined with full 5.1 sound. For the Windows version the game is no longer controlled through the mouse, but now through the keyboard, for the movement of the characters as well as all the actions. The player alternately controls George or Nico. Next to typical adventure gameplay such as exploration, conversations, and searching and combining items, there are also a few action sequences. The characters can duck, sneak, hang from ledges and move crates to reach higher areas.

The locations visited throughout the game include The Congo, Paris, England, Czech Republic and Egypt.

WARNING: The PAL version of this game doesn't work on Xbox 360, only the NTSC version does.

I was a bit skeptical about that when I read the ofthetruck's comment ^ but at least as far as the PAL version not working on a PAL XB360 is concerned the information is absolutely correct. Whether the NTSC one does work is to be determined (see below).

I still have my original Xbox PAL BS3: The Sleeping Dragon disc and I've, literally, just tested it with myself with a PAL XB360 and it confirms his warning.

What is daft is that the XB360 will actually download an update for the game before telling you "blah, blah.....this version is not supported......blah, blah." I wonder why the NTSC version is supported, if it is, but not the PAL one; I'll have to check this on an original Xbox as I'm pretty sure I first played it before I had Component cables so at that time I would have been using a PAL console in PAL mode (480i/60Hz).

So maybe this is one of those PAL Xbox games which doesn't include NTSC support (like Timesplitters 2).

I've just checked the XB360 backwards compatibility and alt.display modes wiki pages. It is not listed at all (NTSC or PAL) as a XB360 compatible game and it is shown as, natively, only supporting WS but not 480p or higher resolution. There is no indication which region version that refers too either.

MS's own listing for XB360 backwards compatible games does not mention either version as being supported and their list includes and identifies NTSC version only supported Xbox games.
