Ski Racing 2006 - Windows 7 Install Solution

Postby Pirault » Tue Mar 20, 2018 8:14 pm

I actually wanted to post this in the comment section of the game itself, but there is a 5 posts requirement.

Solution to install & run Ski Racing 2006 on Windows 7:

1) install the game (I used the setup-en.exe file for the install)

2) before the end of the installation, two error messages will appear:
- TAGES Drivers - Unable to proceed (error 577)
- Ski Racing 2006 - Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package...

Don't click on anything yet, just ignore these prompts.

3) Go to the destination where the game has been installed:
C:\Program Files (x86)\JoWooD\Ski Racing 2006

Copy the whole Jowood folder from C:\Program Files (x86) to your desktop

4) now you can confirm the 2 error messages and finish the installation
Note that this will remove the whole installation and the JoWooD folder will be deleted.

5) Now copy the JoWooD folder from your Desktop back to C:\Program Files (x86)

6) Finally replace the SR2006.exe (in C:\Program Files (x86)\JoWooD\Ski Racing 2006) with the cracked exe

7) now when you start the game, the following issue occurs:
if you skip the intro (with ENTER), the game always crashes

8) Solution: go to C:\Program Files (x86)\JoWooD\Ski Racing 2006\Data\Common and delete the coldwood.avi video file

The game should now finally work without problems. :)

I'm so glad to finally have found a solution. I was desperately trying to google quite some time for a solution without any luck. The main problem is that at the end of the installation, the setup tries to install the DRM Tages Protection (DrvSetup.exe) but fails to do so due to incompatibility with Windows 7. As a result the game gets automatically uninstalled at the end of the installation.

I came up with the "copying JoWood folder" solution quite fast. But what was causing the biggest trouble was the crash after the game start. It actually made me gave up to find a fix for this game. But 2 weeks later I gave it another try and found the solution actually by luck: Instead of skipping the intros at the beginning, I let them all play back to the end and so the game actually started without a crash! That's when I got the idea to delete the intro video files.

Well I'm glad if I can help out other players with the solution. :D

Could someone please post the solution in the comment section of the game?

This will be much easier for people to find I think.

No, I didn't have to run the setup or game with admin rights for it to work. Running it with admin rights was the first thing I tried to fix the issue, but that didn't work.
