Game Dev in need of help opening encrypted pak files

Postby Tagomi » Thu Jun 21, 2018 6:48 pm

How unique is this post huh? lol
Hi Isozone, been a member for a long time just never really hit up the forums. So I'm a game developer currently making an old school fps game much in the ways of DOOM [the first ones] that lovely sexy 2D pixel art.
To the meat; I need to open some old encrypted pak files that contain resources and sprites from other games, namely shadey russian games off steam, mostly the ones that made fps's just to farm cards, not for the art of actually making a great game. The reason for me cracking these open is to 1 backtrack the artist of the files and be like "Hi I want to buy some sprites from you" and to use as ideas for my own sprite creations.

I have already tried the following programs:
7zip gives an error
winzip says its damaged
winrar says its damaged
sprite explorer gives an error
pakexplorer won't open
Dragon Unpacker 5 hangs and crashes

Try the free/basic version of Game Extractor, I use it myself to extract music from old games, highly recommend it:

Another one I use is Universal Extractor:

https://store.steampowered.com/search/? ... e%20Studio

any of the base games, the pak files are in prog common files.
Honestly any of the doom graphic style fps's would work. I need to figure out how to build popping nice fps furniture. Best description of what I'm trying to accomplish for my game is this game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4150 ... e_Dungeon/ but completely different theme, I'm not doing the dungeon crawler ,however, One More Dungeon is fun and a really great game and tbh it's on sale and the devs are cool. Steam sale, good luck trying to load a page

That says unity...the developer is claiming it was made with a different engine. Makes sense though, those textures are to shiney and slick, just not sure why the dev is claiming he used a completely different engine O.o
Cheers for the help
