Windows 10 screwed up my computer?

Come here if you are having PC gaming related issues

Windows 10 screwed up my computer?

Postby Mute » Sun Nov 19, 2017 12:49 am

Hi, I am having a problem...
I have a HP Compaq 8200 Elite Small Form Factor PC
With a 3tb hdd and 16gb ram with a geforce 1030
I wanted to upgrade to windows 10...(stupid move)

Well i go to install win 10 and i get an error msg that says that it cannot install because the hdd partition "is of" gpt format..?

(Thought gpt was the format win10 uses)

Ok so from there on i decide to stop the install and look up uncle google to see what he has to say, on how to get this working... he is a wise man.. i did find out how to fix the problem, but now i am having all sorts of unrelated (maybe?) issues.

I go back to the computer and start it up, but as soon as i start it up i noticed that no video was showing up on my monitor, i couldn't see anything.... video card not being recognized...??? was working fine b4

I tried to get into the bios by hitting f-10 on my keyboard... Notice keyboard not being recognized

The fans start to speed up really fast on there own

The only way to stop is power button

Video Card/onboard video not recognized
No sound
Keyboard not recognized
Fans going crazy

The computer was working perfect...I go to install win 10....Working perfect...I stop install..Go back to install again..Computer not working now,i can't do anything with it..???

Is this fixable...Has anyone had this happen to there computers?

IF Windows 10 screwed up my computer? Microsoft will pay :decap:

Honestly I hate small form PC's aka compacted and overheats very quickly. When a computer overheats, three things happen, crash, programs fail to work, and parts melt....I'm not kidding, they MELT. I have one and unless it's 40*F in my room, it's really bad unless I turn it off after 30 minutes.

As Microsoft was all but forcing people to install Windows 10 for nearly a year, even with misleading menus that make people think that it wouldn't be installed, why in two hells would you voluntarily install it?

I don't want to be an ass, but is it a legit copy of W10? Either way, I can help you revert your system back to your old version assuming you didn't delete the backup W10 makes of the system image before installing, if you'd like.

You can't get into BIOS?
Keyboard not recognized?
Try connecting a different keyboard?
You don't have or can't get to a recovery partition?
Oh, Noooooo!
Do you have access to another HDD to replace the main drive temporarily to see if it can boot to BIOS?
Do you have a recovery disk to install an OS?
Do you have an external HDD case to connect to the PC?
Use it for the original HDD, and save what you can from it.
Having a 2nd PC/laptop would be nice to help with your problem.
+++++
I have heard, read about, and/or seen this same scenario dozens of times.
The only fix was to have a reinstall (OS) disk and start over.
Happened to my daughter's Lenovo laptop.
Microsoft Windows Updates slipped her a Win 10 upgrade and the laptop couldn't take it.
I put Vista in it and halted MS from grabbing her machine ever again.
Trouble is now Vista support has run out and Win 7 will be going in again soon with close monitoring of updates to get it up to date and then SHUT THE HELL OFF.
I HATE Windows 10!
Actually,I HATE MS for how they have conducted themselves as no better than any malware entity that invades your PC.
+++++
The moral here is:
If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT.

I got the computer at a thrift store for $35
It is an i5 2400 quad core with 16gb ram, i put in a 3tb hdd and a geforce gt 1030
Computer had Win7 Pro and was working perfect for 2 weeks
I was stupidly thinking that (well all the new comps have win10, ill install it,I have worked with it b4, it's not that bad)

:notawesome:

ps: I have tried to use a different keyboard, a different monitor...nothing working

If he reverts back he may still have trouble with task scheduling and back up and restore issues. Had this problem reverting back to Windows 7. Had to look it up to fix.

I think you know the obvious answer; do a clean install of your OS.

Hopefully you have an image for this. If not, you know you can DL one.

OK...You know when you turn on your computer and instantly the monitor shows the computer logo or etc....well on mine nothing shows up... video not working/ onboard or video card
Keyboard not being recognized

It is not the fact that i need to do a clean install...its the fact that i cant..
I went to install win 10...i stopped the install... went back to reinstall... Problems began

Its almost like the install created an overall computer virus or something... i can't get it to work

Yeah, that's a bitch.

If your boot order is cd-rom first, you should be able to do a clean install. I've also had good luck with Easy Recovery Essentials Pro. I'm going to assume you've already tried this as you're probably not a newbie.

I'm sure you will sort it out eventually.

Good luck getting into your BIOS and keep us updated. :)

unplug the power cable to the wall. then Hold the power button for like 20 seconds.
Then take out the memory and Reseat both sticks.
I would reseat the graphics card too just in case.

plug back in, and try it out.

if not could be some Mobo/Power supply Issue. or try to boot it without the Graphics card.

It could be that your bios got corrupted. If the mini PC has a cr2032 battery in it, remove it, wait a day then try again. I've fixed many dead computers this way. Give it a shot.

In almost all cases there is a jumper on the MB to reset/ reload the bios

There is also a process to this, varies from board to board
(remove jumper, power on> power off replace jumper/ some say to move over a pin and reset)

Check with the manufacturer specs of the board itself to reset bios

There is also a long list of MB defects known with this particular model.

I am going to have to look into this.... I don't see any jumpers onboard, that i can use, but i will look more in depth...

Something got corrupted...Im going to take out the memory and the cr2032 battery, unplug everything, let it sit overnight, and maybe it will reset itself...

Check the CMOS battery, pc should open into bios even without a hdd. if all else fails use DBAN to wipe the HDD(run it twice)and reinstall win 7.Hope all goes well and you get it going.

I had a HP mini pc that was having the same issue. I reflowed the northbridge chip and it worked fine until i knocked it off a table. Ram, processor, hdd, gfx card, psu all should be good, you might just have to buy a cheapo mobo and case and you should be set. Also, are you getting any beep codes? If there are none then yeah it may be a bad mobo. Also check for a 4 pin power connector near the processor, that may be unplugged and prevent the system from booting. Also try booting up without the hard drive, dvd drive, gfx card, and leave one stick of ram in and see what happens.
