Xeno GC problems after installation

Postby cinek193 » Mon Mar 13, 2017 9:05 pm

I warmly welcome. I have a problem. I added to my console today Xeno GC chip.
I used a soldering scheme of our board, unfortunately, there is a problem.
The console does not read disc. Even the original games that have worked without problems.
After you insert a disc, nothing happens, it does not even begin to spin.
What could be the cause of things? Tomorrow I will try again to check solder joints but it seems to me that everything is ok.
Chip is lit red.

You have to pot tweak the laser after you install the mod chip. Are there any led lights on the chip?

might need a laser adjustment. I just did one, and I needed to adjust the laser to read the blank media I was using. originals worked fine.

It sounds like you may have bridged a solder joint with another trace.
If the chip is lit red.

Did u check to make sure you didn't snap off the closed lid cover switch. Those are easy to break which would cause it not to spin as well as a possible trace issue. This has nothing to do with a pot adjustment guys if you read the disc doesn't even spin. Not all cubes need a pot adjustment BTW as my gamecube did not require one

As above, check the lid switch (two small black prongs at the rear) are ok. If they are it sounds like the install failed, desolder and redo if you cant see the problem. Originals should work without a pot tweak if they did before. Also beware as some of the newer cheap Chinese Xeno 2.0 clones have two red LEDS so you may only get a red light even if its installed properly. Best to use a multimeter to pot tweak if you have one but you don't need to worry about that until its working with originals, also import originals are a good way to test the chip is working properly.

if its not reading original discs and it was before you installed the chip, its not installed correctly

Yep, check the install for bridges, etc.

You don't necessary have to pot tweak after a install. Every GC is different and I have installed a few of these and only needed a pot tweak twice on two seperate machines. Also, use Philips or Ritek Ridata @ 2x for backups.

Hello. I undressed today the console to check the connection. I fixed soldered connections
Now the original game to operate normally. The question now how to check the operation of the chip without any copy? The LED on the chip no longer shines still only just blinking.

Problem solved.
I undressed again consoles, checked mulitmerem connection. Everything was ok, yet again, I used a soldering iron.
Now I'm sure that the chip works. I launched the chip menu. I also managed to fire up a copy of the SD Media Luncher.
Burned on the cheapest plate 12cm.
I set the laser at 280 Ohm. Originally 330 but did not want to read that copy.

It also turned out that my chip is a Chinese Xeno and has two red LEDs.

Yeah, seeing more of these twin red LED Xeno chips around now. Great that you now have it working, just out of interest did you go for a wired install or straight to the board?

I installed it using wires because my soldering iron is too large to solder it on the motherboard.
I do not have Kynar so I used individual wires with wire UTP.

Thats cool, i usually do the wired install myself as it just seems easier with the Xeno chips never quite fitting the board properly. Occasionally i do one straight to the board but put small strips of tape down first to limit the chance of getting solder on an incorrect contact.
