By the way, vga, what are your plans as far as a case mod? I would like to see one where a 3.5" HDD sits underneath the DC in a shroud or something. I currently have an IDE mobile rack uner mine.

I am surprised nobody has come up with a PSU mod to extenally power both a HDD and the DC.

Speaking g of HDD's, I have a FAT32 fated 500gb 3.5" SATA drive with a 374gb GDI collection ready :)

Glad you're still enjoying this puppy :)

Yeah it's only used if you want to set up an led to show hdd activity. I didn't do it to this one but I did do it on the DC i sold to XC-3730C (Pictured in his previous post)
This diagram should help you
Image
The front right of the console is a great place to mount the led, just drill a hole. In XC-3730C's, I swapped the original led with a blue one and used the original orange led for the hdd indicator.

Excuse my ignorance, but which pins are for HDD activity LED?

Pin 39 is the HDD activity indicator.

Your going to need to connect the LED to the 3.3V pin, and depending on the LED, you might need to use a resistor to step down the voltage from 3.3V to whatever your led requires.

Thanks man that's nice to hear! VGA nailed it with his explanation. HMU if you run into any problems pulling this one off.

Yeah XC bought it off of me after the grumpy buttholes on this forum tried burying me with neg rep for posting this console for sale.

Here's an edited version of the wiring diagram based on joshfrigmont's and another picture. Btw, which P.GND do I wire the ground wires to, or does it really matter?

Indeed. I finally did the 44-pin IDE mod, and using it with a 8pgb 2.5" HDD successfully. For some reason, my CF to 44-pin IDE/128gb SD (via SD to CF adapter) doesn't work.

Here it is (not pretty, nor permanent):

Hey guys one question, lookin at the 44 ide pinout I see that pinn 44 is : pin 44 /type Type (0=ATA)
Not ground.

I'm a little confused because joshfrigmont says that he connected that pin to ground :(

0=ATA means low level i.e. ground.

I am thinking of doing another DC 44-pin IDE mod, but was wondering what Guage of wire to use in lieu of an IDE cable? Would 30 awg work?

For the life of me i can't get a 3.5 40 pin hdd to work on my dreamcast with a external power supply..
My 44 pin works no problem...I formatted the 3.5 drive fat32 with different sector's 32/64/ect 1 primary partition DS folder at root of drive...can't get past Dreamshell logo and when i use a startech sata adapter can't get past found device with x amount of space and it's stuck at that screen...I've tried 5 different drives same results... Tried the other 44 pin drives i have they work fine.

Maybe i will try a different psu

I don't get it wtf
