@Bad_Ad84

What is this pre-programmed MX29LV160 chip? It's only replaced multiregion bios, or there is also loaded Dreamshell bios? I'm asking becuase my Dreamcast GDRom drive is dead, and I can't load Dreamshell to my bios until I don't buy a new laser lens for Dreamcast. Let me know if your chips have pre-programed Dreamshell, it would be cool, so I don't need to buy expensive parts or a newconsole, just SD adapter to load my games/homebrew from SD Card :mrgreen: .

He can program it with dreamshell, but will be useless, since it will not load DC games from SD card due to the fact that the original DC BIOS file will be missing.

Hmm I'm a little bit confused. I've heard from someone, information: "if you flash your bios with Dreamshell, you can run all kind of games (katana/homebrew) without a working GD-R drive, all you need is SD-Adapter".

So basicly, what the purpose of this chips? They are only soldered to run games form other region, something like Utopia, but permanet solution?

You can load homebrew software just fine with Dreamshell. From what I understand, every games compiled with the Katana SDK or WinCE requires some special boot instructions contained in the bioses from Sega.

In that sense, every homebrew/indie game developed with the KallistiOS SDK (or other?) should run just fine on the Dreamshell bios.

I was told by swat on his forums (dc-swat.ru) that he was already looking into it for the next update of DreamShell. He's probably going to extract some code from one of the bioses created by Sega and jam it in his stuff, or the other way around. I'm no expert in this matter but that's what I deduced from my research.

Anyway, there are SO many great homebrew games you can play right now: Beats of Rage mods, ReviveDC releases, other emulators and lots and lots of other. Personnally, I think that even without the ability to boot Retail games from SD card, it is still an amazing feature that every Dreamcast should have!
