backs up failing:(

Postby davidgej » Thu Mar 22, 2018 5:40 am

so my dilemma is ive got about 7 coasters sitting in my game case right now, they all had worked fine last night and even a copy that i had just burned 10 minutes ago worked. putting them in a second time however is a different story, they simply just will not boot. I am using imgburn and burning at 4x using verbatim 700mb cdrs as that was the highest success rate i found them playing at the previous night. Any help with a solution is greatly appreciated, i just dont want to adjust the laser if i dont have to.

Doesn't make sense, can't be the cd's, so it must be the console

Unless you damaged or got dirty the bottom surface of the cd's, theres no way they could go bad that fast

probably what's happening is after your console is used a bit the laser starts having problems, or maybe the other way around

DC likes to do this.
Re-re-re-re and re-boot them and eventually it catches and reads.
Adjust the POT on the laser.
Try a different brand of media and make sure its not just that brand.
It's going to be a game of elimination , FYI don't run out and buy 100 stack of disks just to get the same result.
I had to try a few stores and grab up small 10 packs of multiple brands till I got one that seems to work more often than not, even then I'd still get a 1/5 fails on reading the first time.

^ as curbs and zombie advised, plus maybe try a couple at slightly higher speeds as some setups work better for CD-R at a higher burn speed unless you already have of course.

out of ten cds only two had worked at higher speeds, but ive noticed ive had to reboot for some games to work so ill try and try again.

Edited,
should i adjust the POT? original games work absolutely fine, but my back ups run every once and a bluemoon. i got unreal tournament to run after EIGHT REBOOTS!!!! its not even worth playing the back ups if i have to do this every time.

POT adjustments would be the last thing on the list of non evasive things to try lol.
You would need to do some research on the direction you'll need to turn the adjustment screw.
Mirco movements worked for me in the past, moving the adjustment screw maybe a millimeter then test a disk, rinse and repeat.
If you can get a multi meter you can get a more precise setting.

Working perfectly now, thank you so much. I also red that I should leave the disc for 5 minutes after it’s done burning before I pop it in! This all seems to do the trick for me.
