Best 3rd party controllers for Xbox?

Postby XC-3730C » Tue Aug 22, 2017 8:50 pm

What do you guys think are good, solid 3rd party controllers for Xbox?

I picked up an Xbox system yesterday. It not only came with an official Microsoft S-controller, but a Pelican Afterglow Pro (PL-2045) was also included.

I like this controller not only because it looks and feels good, but it also has white and black buttons on the top like a 360 controllers left and right bumper buttons (I honestly believe Microsoft should have released a controller with white and black on the top of the controller). The LED's are a nice touch, and if I get another one of these, I would like to mod the LED's to be green.

What are some other good 3rd party controllers for Xbox and why?

Just a heads up, Photobucket removed 3rd party hosting. So we can't see the pics.

Edit: Nevermind what I said.

Maximo Rumble Shock - Cable is kinda short, doesn't have the breakaway, but the analog sticks are precise & don't have the deadzone issue that most 3rd party controllers do that makes precise movement impossible.

I like this one because it has the same button layout as the s-controller and a turbo button for arcade type shooters. Short cord though, so you need an extended breakaway cable like below.

But to be honest, you are best off buying microsoft controllers used and fixing them up. Buying third party Xbox controllers is a very frustrating experience that should be avoided IMO.

Get a Madcatz MicroCON. i own one and can vouch for this review. they are pretty good controllers overall and smaller than the controller S. i dont like the thumbstick caps but you could just swap them out for better ones

Does anyone know of any 3rd party controllers with turbo fire for all buttons, and white/black shoulder/bumper buttons on top?

Wireless Play-On controllers are not to bad, i hve two and they have lasted through a lot of gaming reliably. Could be a little more precise but more then adequate for my gaming needs. I would like some more wireless controllers when i see some somewhere just to compare.

I've had this controller for over 10 years and still works great! Logitech brand wireless controller, it's really similar to how the 360 controller was with it's quick responsiveness.

I bought this sucker new the other day...
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008DWSW/

Interesting as it's actually an official Xbox controller. Works and feels almost identical to an S-Controller. The d-pad is smaller and has sharp edges, a downside, though it is more accurate. Prevents accidental jumping in fighting games. I'm considering filing down the edges, then it would be perfect.

Cord length is the same as the official S-Controller. It did freak me out at first because some buttons required a 30 minute breaking in period before they worked properly, particularly R3 and L3.

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with it. Just trying to decide what to do with that d-pad. Great price for the quality, particularly new. Oh and everything works well with XBMC, sometimes 3rd party controllers have problems there.

Bad d-pad is a deal breaker for me, as I use my Xbox exclusively for retro gaming. Such a!shame that d-pads are seemingly an afterthought for most systems/controllers.

How did you deal with that d-pad?

It's actually a better functioning d-pad, less jumping. But the edges curve up and are sharp, making it uncomfortable. Like I said, I'm probably going to file those edges down.
