How to make xbmc my default dashboard?

Postby mountaindew117 » Sun Dec 17, 2017 3:30 pm

I was just curious as how to make xbmc my default dashboard. Im currently using unleash x dashboard. I have downloaded the most current xbmc (xbmc4xbox-3.5.3), extracted to a folder on my desktop and ftp it into my E: folder as XBMC. But when booting up the xbox it still boots into unleash x dashboard and to even start the xbmc i have to go into file manage, xbmc folder, and and lauch the default.xbe file and then it boots into xbmc.

How do i go about making xbmc my go to every time from turning on the xbox. Reason I'm switching to xbmc dashboard is because unleashed can't read any of my emulators i have put into the F: folder. Shows up nothing for my emulators but it shows my xbox games that are in my F: folder and i read on here that a simple swap of your dashboard from unleashed to xmbc could fix this problem.

Edited,
Also forgot to mention the emulators im using are the resurection emulators that i personally like the best some of the others on here just require to much setup like locating your roms to link to the emulators i personally like to plug and play. Plus i ripped everything i had on my softmodded xbox original and put it onto my buddies im making for him lol

Better off using it as an app in unleash's app menu on home screen

Assuming it works for you.Place the folder named xbmc in the apps,applications or media player folder or wherever the apps need to go for unleash to display them on the home screen (I use the default skin for unleash however i have used AID to install dashes for hardmod,so above suggestion may not work for yours)

To do what you require i think you make a shortcut on C while renaming unleashes so you still have a dash if it turns to custard.You best make a backup of C & E before making any changes.There's posts round here that you can find of others asking the very same question

If that's the reason for the change make sure you are using a good version of UnleashX. The last official release opened several file managing glitches, possibly contributing to your problem.

It won't hurt to make XBMC 3.5.3 dash one in the meantimetime though, it's beyond stable.

Anyhow, easiest way is to use shortcut.xbe. Espescially for a softmod. Very self guided, but comes with directions.

The only way to hard set the dash boot paths is to customize the bios you use and reflash with the new boot paths set. This is beyond the ability of a softmod 1.6 without a modchip. Although it is ideal because most bios support between four and five options, in case anything happens to option one and two. Corruption, mishandling, et cetera.

I agree, just use a shortcut. I'm doing this way with my 1.6 soft-modded Xbox since about 3 years, never had any problem. XBMC it's the best for the Xbox (low temperatures) and beautiful to the sight too.
I've softmodded with UnleashX, just put it in the Apps (it needs for Qwix, for browsing the cache patitions and other things occasionally).

You need to make sure that UnleashX's config.xml, menu setup, searches the paths you install new apps like XBMC and Emulators. Edit config.xml as shown below, upload new version (overwrite old version) and reboot.

The default config.xml searches for Applications under E:\Apps and F:\Apps and has no Emulators menu item. Each App/Emulator is installed in a unique subfolder. If they are not stored in subfolders (default.xbe found) under a searched <Path><_search_folder_name_></Path>, you can add each Item manually where saved on your Xbox's HDD.

Menu section of UnleashX 0.39.0528A Build 584's config.xml configuration file:
Spoiler:
Code: Select all
<Menu>
      <Item Action="LaunchDVD" >Launch DVD</Item>
      <List Text="Games" Sort="On" Auto="On">
         <Path>E:\Games</Path>
         <Path>F:\Games</Path>
         <Path>G:\Games</Path>
         <Path>E:\HDDLoader</Path>
         <Path>F:\HDDLoader</Path>
      </List>
      <List Text="Applications" Sort="On" Auto="On">
         <Path>E:\Apps</Path>
         <Path>F:\Apps</Path>
         <Item Action="TextEditor" >Text Editor</Item>
      </List>
      <List Text="System" Sort="Off" Auto="On" >
         <Item Action="Settings" >Settings</Item>
         <Item Action="SavesManager">Game Saves Manager</Item>
         <List Text="Misc" Sort="Off" Auto="On">
            <Item Action="FTPStop">Stop FTP</Item>
            <Item Action="FTPStart">Start FTP</Item>
            <Item Action="FTPReset">Reset FTP</Item>
            <Item Action="NETReset">Restart Network</Item>
            <Item Action="TrayClose">Close DVD Tray</Item>
            <Item Action="TrayOpen">Open DVD Tray</Item>
            <Item Action="CopyDVD">Copy Game Disc</Item>
         </List>
         <List Text="Format Menu" Sort="Off" Auto="On" Password="Xbox">
            <Item Action="Format"  Arg1="X" >Format X Drive</Item>
            <Item Action="Format"  Arg1="Y" >Format Y Drive</Item>
            <Item Action="Format"  Arg1="Z" >Format Z Drive</Item>
            <List Text="Format F Drive" Sort="Off" Batch="True">
               <Item Action="AskUser" Arg1="Format">Are you sure you want to format Drive F?</Item>
               <Item Action="MessageBox" Arg1="Format">Press OK to proceed with the format operation.</Item>
               <Item Action="Format" Arg1="F" >Format F Drive</Item>
            </List>
            <List Text="Format G Drive" Sort="Off" Batch="True">
               <Item Action="AskUser" Arg1="Format">Are you sure you want to format Drive G?</Item>
               <Item Action="MessageBox" Arg1="Format">Press OK to proceed with the format operation.</Item>
               <Item Action="Format" Arg1="G" >Format G Drive</Item>
            </List>
            <List Text="Format E Drive" Sort="Off" Batch="True">
               <Item Action="AskUser" Arg1="Format">Are you sure you want to format Drive E?</Item>
               <Item Action="MessageBox" Arg1="Format">Press OK to proceed with the format operation.</Item>
               <Item Action="Format" Arg1="E" >Format E Drive</Item>
            </List>
         </List>
         <Item Action="Skins">Skins</Item>
      </List>
      <Item Action="FileManager" >File Explorer</Item>
      <Item Action="C:\xboxdash.xbe">MS Dashboard</Item>
      <Item Action="Restart" >Reboot</Item>
      <Item Action="Shutdown" >Shutdown</Item>
   </Menu>
If XBMC's default.xbe file is found at E:\XBMC\default.xbe, add the following line to UnleashX's config.xml file inside the <Menu>...</Menu> section but outside of any <List>...</List> or <Item>...</Item> entries:

Code: Select all
      <Item Action="E:\XBMC\default.xbe">XBMC4Xbox v3.5.3</Item>

adjust the Action="<complete_path_to_XBMC's_default.xbe>" as necessary and for Emulators add:

Code: Select all
      <List Text="Emulators" Sort="On" Auto="On">
         <Path>E:\Emulators</Path>
         <Path>F:\Emulators</Path>
         <Path>G:\Emulators</Path>
      </List>

You can use a shortcut (XBE Shortcut Maker) as Junk posted above to change your default dashboard. Most BIOS's search for C:\evoxdash.xbe as the first dashboard/executable to run at boot time.
