Original Xbox SATA to IDE Adapter?

Postby Jodo901 » Thu Apr 19, 2018 1:25 am

So I just freed up a 500 GB SATA HDD that is compatible with the Xbox and I need to invest in an adapter. It looks like the popular one on DealExtreme is "being restocked". I know there are lots of different ones out there. Can anyone link me to a good working one? (I'm in the U.S.)

I ordered 4 from different eBay and Amazon sellers and one of them worked. It's one of the cheapest on eBay, don't know which one exactly since they all look alike. They're like 3$ each, so buy a bunch!

I just purchased this one off of Ebay and it worked fine for my second Xbox. I usually would shell out like $15 for the Kingwin ones but thought I would try a cheaper one. It is $6.99 and I can confirm it worked fine on my second xbox. I cannot post links but type in "SATA-SSD-HDD-Female-Hard-Drive-To-IDE-3-5-40-Pin-Male-Converter-Card-Adapter-US" in ebay and you will find it.

Thanks guys! I found a few I will check out more later. I also saw something about changing from a 40 pin to an 80 pin cable on the Xbox to get these working. Anyone know about that or will the original Xbox EIDE Cable work fine?

With a 500 GB HDD you are going to need an 80-pin IDE cable or most likely you will get an HDD timeout error. Error 7 I think.

Startech costs a little more but they do work.

And yes be sure to use an 80 pin cable.

80 pin cable is just better, so why risk it. The Kingwin is not a sure shot, I have one and it doesn't work.

Thanks again all!!!

I ordered an adapter that was about $8. With luck it will be here in a week. I will also test this out with my PS2 which currently only has an 80GB EIDE. If I can get 500GB drives up and running in both I will be ecstatic. I popped in an 80pin Ribbon on the Xbox and it's up and running fine even though it was a bitch to fit it in there. Lol

Hi, Just an FYI of what I have noticed. Its really hit or miss with these adapters. What works for one hard drive will not work with others. Kingwin adapter will not work with 750mb or 1tb Hitachi HDD always gets error 7 on a reboot no matter how you reboot, so I swap it out with a $3 China cheapie bought off WISH a cheap china site and the same drives work perfect. These ones on WISH are FREE just pay for shipping which is $3 each (Ijust ordered 6). They are the same ones newegg offers from china for $5.90 each.
