I didn't read far enough in the thread I previous posted about. Another uses states the following:
Fixified wrote:Hello everyone! So i FINALLY found a fix to this to completely disable the write protection feature if you like me for some reason can't get your aladdin xt to flash

What you have to do is solder B1 to L1 and this will bypass/disable the write protection feature the chip offers and you'll be able to flash the chip with ease :D

Hope this will be to help for someone with the same problem!

Thanks for the replies that got me more looking into this. :D

Not sure if they meant BT to L1 or if the chip also has solder pad labeled B1.

Do you have your xbox opened? Check the IDE cable connections...

Also, the chip in the socket on the modchip. What is the part number on it (e.g., SST49LF020, SST49LF002A)?

I don't think the L1 point should have anything to do with flash protection.

In a reddit.com modchips wiki post about the Aladdin XT plus 2, there's mention of connecting L1 to the Xbox front panel LED and connecting H0 to an H0 point on the the motherboard to indicate HDD activity by blinking the power ring LED.

The hard drive is not working properly.

The Xbox cannot access it when it tries.

Could be too slow starting up, dead drive, bad cable, no power, etc.

Check/reseat the HDD power connection. Can you hear the HDD spin up? If that fails to fix it, try a different IDE cable. And, as a last resort...

Spoiler:
You could try connecting the HDD to a PC (PC may not even POST - if HDD's dead).

If you get this far attempting to access data on the HDD, you need an EEPROM backup to unlock the drive before you can access it and software read the data as the Xbox uses the FATX filesystem which is unknown to Windows. It will only want to reformat the drive, DON'T, cancel any such pop-ups displayed.

XboxHDM2.3USB-Beta3 can be used to unlock and access files on the FATX filesystem. Windows itself cannot read the data on the disk. (Beta 3 is an updated version with USB to IDE/SATA adapter Xbox HDD drive access. I've not used it myself. I have used the Beta 2 release on a PC with an IDE interface - direct download link XboxHDM23USB Beta 2)

Extract the archive to a USB thumbdrive and place the EEPROM.BIN backup, renamed to all lower case - eeprom.bin, in the XboxHD folder. Use the batch file, xboxhd.bat, to start XboxHDM. Again, the beta 3 version can access HDDs via IDE bus or a USB to IDE or SATA adapter connection. Beta 2 only supports IDE access to the Xbox HDD. (Neither version supports HDD access to SATA drives directly attached to a SATA port on the PC.)

Use the Midnight Commander, file manager, to copy the files to the PC's HDD for backup.
If all these steps fail, replace the HDD.

XboxHDM2.3USB beta 3 release will work on a laptop if you have a USB to IDE or SATA adapter (depends which HDD type) but Beta 2 won't as it requires IDE connectivity.

From what you've described, either the IDE cable is bad or the HDD is dead.
