Anyone figured out how to get it working?

Saves of this game can not be shared,I mean saves copied from other xboxs can not be used in your xbox. It's invalible,so don't waste your time to download any saves of games made by TECMO,for example OAU,DOAX and NINJA GAIDEN(I don't know how these Japanese think!)
If you find this game is too hard to play,it's better to download a trainer

I'm guessing that like other games with save files that cannot be transferred between Xbox's, TECMO signed the save for the Xbox it was created. Have yet to check this assumption and solve how to use on another Xbox.

I'll try this too on FF2 and NG, you can try the other TECNO ones if you like, love a challenge.

IIRC, with other games that have been resigned you need to know the HDDKey of the Xbox it came from so the data unsigned then use the new Xbox's HDDKey to resign the file.

I think Forza Motorsport is such a game that requires this process to transfer a game save from one Xbox to another.

[Update: yes, forza required resigning the game saves. Forza Resigner]

But, TECMO didn't develop Forza Motorsport so more research will be required to see why the saves created for their games don't work on another Xbox.

i don't have CoLDFIRE's HDDKey if TECMO did use that unique Xbox value to sign a game save. But, they probably used an entirely different method. Just don't know, yet! :D

Someone is actually looking into this?! Shock! No, really! I'm actually shocked! Didn't think anyone cared...

In any case, I'm the guy who was complaining that the save didn't work, so if anyone figures out a solution, please let me know. :)

The game save file here at TiZ for Fatal Frame II is never going to work. :( It's incomplete!

I played the game and saved at various points (4 so far in the house) and there should be another file in each of the DD2A3E8CDDnn (nn = 01 - 08) as there were 8 game save slots. I'm not sure if there are more save slots or if it's just these 8 available.

Each game save slot should have 4 files:
  1. game.xsv - 37 MBytes
  2. header.xsv - 52 bytes
  3. saveimage.xbx - 4,096 bytes
  4. SaveMeta.xbx - 54 bytes
The saves I've found, actually both the same - one here at TiZ another on the Wayback machine for xbox-saves.com (never got the file as it was password protected and not archived but the same filename, are missing the game.xsv in all the numbered subfolders for the game save.

If CoLDFIRE, the original xbox-saves.com uploader's handle, copied the saves to a stock 8MB Xbox memory unit, the game.xsv files were never saved as they are too big to copy to it. He should have FTP downloaded the E:\UDATA\5443000a\ folder. However, from the contents of the archived save, he used Xbox Saves Manager as there's a gameid.ini file. This program should have downloaded the game.xsv files too. Not sure why these important files are missing.

Interesting info about a couple of the files in each DD2A3E8CDD[01-08] folder.
SaveMeta.xbx contents:
Code: Select all
FF FE 4E 00 61 00 6D 00 65 00 3D 00 47 00 61 00 | ..N.a.m.e.=.G.a.
6D 00 65 00 20 00 4E 00 6F 00 2E 00 37 00 0D 00 | m.e. .N.o...7...
0A 00 4E 00 6F 00 43 00 6F 00 70 00 79 00 3D 00 | ..N.o.C.o.p.y.=.
30 00 0D 00 0A 00 | 0.....
The No. n (here 7) changes with each save slot 1-8 [DD2A3E8CDDnn (nn = 01 - 08) folder].

The widechar text reads:
Name=Game No.7
NoCopy=0

So I'll never find a working save that has everything unlocked, is it? Well, that sucks. At least you found out WHY it doesn't work though. Thanks.

Sucks that there was not a working save made for this game. guess we will all have to play through it to try and create one.

Since the game saves in CoLDFIRE's archive were incomplete - thus actually damaged as the game shows when try to load one - the next step is to copy a full save from one console to another and see if it works without any modifications. If not, try to decipher how it is system locked.

Back in the day, TECMO really didn't like modders hacking their games. One such site was ninjahacker.net that was online for ~1 year.

I tried that yesterday on Ninja Gaiden, Ninja Gaiden Black as well as Fatal Frame II, all 3 came up as DAMAGED on the other machine.

I copied them to a largish SD card/adapter/cable as the 1st save for FF2 is nearly 38MB, Ftp'd them to the other machine and all damaged, that CoLDFIRE safe is going to be just the same, he/she can't have known it was no good.

It's a shame there isn't an patcher like ForzaSign or work could be done to see how that Ninja Gaiden trainer option works but I'm not up to it I'm afraid.

XSavSig looks promising, maybe a work around on the TECMO games can be done using this, maybe tweaking one of it's saves to make a patched one, I don't know - really clutching at straws here.

It's a bit of a head scratcher why nothing has been done on this seeing what the XBOX modding community is like, even now.

Thing is, I've never beaten this game before, and I just figured it'd be fun to do my first run with a different costume. See, I've got this VERY bad habit where I beat a game once, then don't come back for ages. Still, I basically weep (yes, weep) that there is no complete save for this. But either way, somebody has gotta do it. What frightens me is higher difficulties. None the less, I'll see what I can get done over the course of a month or two, and then upload a save, if possible.
