XBOX OG Ram upgrade fail, burned pin :(

Postby Maddglow05 » Fri Feb 23, 2018 11:05 pm

Hello, I hope someone can help me out here.
I attempt my first try at the xbox ram upgrade and once I installed the 4 ram chips the xbox booted correctly, but the joy did not last long as it froze and I redid all the connections again, thats when it happened. Basically the Pin on the motherboard fell off ur burned off. Is there anything I could do?

My xbox:
V 1.2
Tsop Flashed
Ind Bios 5003 or something like that

It looks like the 2 pins are touching, try to clean it up with some flux.
As long as the trace that burned off in front, is ok from behind you should be okay.
If it doesn't work out you may need to remove the ram and check out the traces.

What does having extra ram do anyway?

The Samsung data sheet shows that pin 93 is RFU - Reserved for Future Use. Don't know if that means it really doesn't have to be connected for the device to operate or not.

Too bad it wasn't one of the pins 87-91 as those are N.C. - no connection.

More memory to run Linux. XBMC works better with more memory as some skins are memory hogs. Emulators can play games better.

Doesn't do anything for original Xbox games as they are configured to use only 64MB's of RAM.

Additionally, if 128MBs of memory is installed, some Chihiro games can be played on a modded Xbox.

Chihiro is Sega's arcade system based on the Xbox with MORE hardware added on: GD-ROM, memory, security, arcade controls, etc.

Partial games list: Crazy Taxi High Roller, Ollie King, Outrun 2, Outrun 2 SP, Ghost Squad, The House of the Dead III, Virtua Cop 3. (I'm not sure if all these are supported. I've seen Virtual Cop 3 and Outrun 2 Beta videos on youtube showing gameplay on a 128MB modded Xbox.)

Note: V1.6 consoles are no good as they haven't the pads to solder on the additional 4 100-pin DDR SDRAM chips.

try and clean up the board in front of the dead pin from any flux, check the nearby area, you may be able to scratch yourself a trace and expose it enough to get the solder on it,

if you do find a trace and want to solder to it, youll need to be extremely careful and lightly scratch at it with a razor blade until you start seeing some exposed gold looking copper, solder from there, you can use a bit of wire to reach the point, at this point its a bit of troubleshooting and hope.
