TV/emulator boxes.

Postby CurbsidePharmacist » Thu Mar 29, 2018 8:51 pm

Some of you may remember a post I made a year or more ago about these.

I had started setting up some for emulation and free streaming however the line of boxes I had bought are now for the most part outdated since Android 4.4.2 is now low end compared to most devices that have been released lately.

I ended up picking up a few new devices to test on,
Nvidia Shield $170-200 usd
Dolamee D5-D9 $35-45 usd
A5X Max $60-80 usd

I don't think I'll be selling these online considering the current climate towards the streaming and Roms.
The ones I do make and sell are local since it's a cash transaction and they have been keeping me pretty busy I decided I didn't want to advertise these so openly lol.

But if anyone had questions or wanted to set one up themselves feel free to ask I do have a software pack I created to run off a 32GB SD card with a little over 7,000 games and have tested TONS of apps on these most will run everything from NES up to Dreamcast,PS1 and N64... the CD based games run into the issue of storage.

I am curious, what are the specs? What media software? What video connectors? If I wanted to add a driver, is the SDK/compiler available?

FYI: IDE = Integrated Drive Electronics. This was a huge selling point for HDD's during the '80s. NEARLY ALL DRIVES NOW ARE IDE. IDE drives include: PATA/SATA/CD-ROM/DVD-ROM/BLU-RAY/ZIP/flash, etc. IDE does not mean PATA, even if the salesman tells you it does.
My systems:
Spoiler:

Specs vary from box to box, there's millions of clones out there also really it just depends on what you plan to do with it. Bigger apps bigger hardware.

nodots wrote:What media software?

There's a bunch, I use.
Kodi.
Showbox.
Terrarium TV.
Built in media player.

nodots wrote: What video connectors?

Most come with HDMI and a A/V out for older TVs.

There is a subculture of people online that edit and recompile the OS's for these anything from de-bloating to offering the newer versions of the Android OS it all depends on what type of box you buy.

Here are the specs on the 3 I posted above as examples.

Low end
D5.png

Medium
A5X Max.png

High end
NS.png

The low end stuff can run the media apps and most of the emulators till about playstation, Dreamcast and N64.

The mid range can run PSP and the more demanding emulators a bit better.

The high end can run games better than all of them since it has a better onboard GPU and was built for gaming.
