Marvel vs. Capcom 2

Well what can I say we here at RDC love our Capocom fighting games and this is no exception. Comradesnarky did the MVC part one for you all last week so this week I present it's predecessor Marvel vs Capcom 2. This is actually the fourth installment of this series followed by X-men vs Street Fighter and Marvel vs Street Fighter both excellent games in the Saturn, screw the PSX counterparts. Anyhow on this rip I removed tons and I mean tons of trash data left over by the dev somewhere around the 500mb mark getting this game well down to size for release. I did customize the sort order this time to get the 1ST_READ.BIN towards the begining instead of the edge as folks seem to have problems that way. I also went with the more reliable data/data boot method this time so older Japanese and rev0 systems will have no troubles with this rip as I have personally play tested this rip on a rev0 Dreamcast over 10 times without a hiccup. More to come and I know this game has been done a million times but not like we do, nothing was touched and the only thing of any importance that went out the door was the internet feature as it is useless. What will we do next? I don't know but we are quickly approaching release number 50 and I tell you what comrade has a surprise for the whole Dremacast community that won't be forgotten on an EPIC level. This is really optimized and the layout is exactly like the real deal without all the left over trash data I tossed out. Around 400mbish.

Selfbooting and burn tested by me the builder of the image and i can assure you it is a 100% working image.

Since I use ImgBurn, every game works fine.
This is the first release with problems. My DC don't boot the CD ...
Laser is calibrated and works with a lot of CD-Rs. Burned with ImgBurn 2.5.5 or 2.5.6 with 4x or 8x.

Edit1: I tried another burning drive, same problems.
Today I will buy another charge of CD-Rs.

Well, assuming ImgBurn always works perfectly is your first problem because it really doesn't always work perfectly. Some games just won't burn correctly with it. Try Disc Juggler. That's the program that CDIs are native to.

I bought Verbatim AZO and one CDI works. But not Marvel vs Capcom2 ...

People saying Disc Juggler is crap probably aren't setting it up right. Make sure you go into the advanced tab and make sure it's set to CD-XA and Mode 2.

I personally can't recall any games not working with Disc Juggler, though the only games I've burned in the past year or so have been ones that have been made with the RDC group.

Okay, weird situation.
First of all: it works!

But, I set the default writing speed to 4x.
At the burning dialog 4x is selected ...
What happens? 52x !
Any ideas ? Just for the next ReviveDC ;)

The Disc Juggler trial forces the lowest burning speed possible on your drive. Apparently yours is 52x. This isn't a problem though; all of that "burn as slow as possible" stuff is bullshit and nothing else.

Burning at a speed your CD-Rs are rated for results in the least errors; if you buy 52x, burn at 52x.

Well Imgburn is using the drivers directly from DJ6 in my pack as i took them from the exe of the program myself so it behaves just like disc juggler as it is using their drivers. Without adding those two files Imgburn will not burn cdi games properly that are self boot as it can't handle mutilsession data. This is why it doesn't support Nero and Alcohol images as well.

thanks for the release. but there is some game-breaking problem. Dont know if it was part of the original GD-ROM image as well.

it mostly happens when I include Felicia from the cast in arcade mode.
You can try too. Pick Darkstalkers team: Felicia, Morrigan and Bulleta

in the first stage I get a blue screen. Game freezes. I can hear only the music.
Even if I press the eject button, blue screen remains. I have to reset the Dreamcast.

Sometimes I can play the first stage fine but when I progress to the second stage the problem is bound to happen. Especially if I lose and press continue button and re-select that same team.

Just tested your three using this very image and it loaded up just fine for me without a hiccup. Made it to the end and beat the boss. Maybe bad media or a weak laser but the image seems to be good.

I burned another CDR at 8x speed just to make sure.
I played for 40 minutes and had around 15 different loading stages.
Didnt beat the game, just played through stages with continue.
Game is hard even on very easy. After stage 5 the AI does ridiculous stuff for that difficulty.

problem occured only once. I chose the same characters with different order after each continue. Odds are higher if I pick Felicia as first character it seems.
Anyway, percentage is much smaller to negligible so I regard it as unimportant.

Dont know if it also has to do with the save game. I didnt unlock all characters but used one save from Dream Explorer, where all characters where unlocked.

perhaps some incompatibility there might be the issue.
