Free Mc Boot

Postby ignatius » Tue Oct 17, 2017 3:57 am

Hi,

I've successfully installed Free Mc Boot on my PS2 (SCPH-90001 BC, date stamp 0A) via the DVD iso route, but it doesn't seem to want to boot. I've read in numerous places that my system supports Free Mc Boot. I've tried 2 different memory cards (8 MB each). Could it possibly be that they're corrupted somehow? Or, have I gotten bad information that my system supports it? I hope not.

Thanks.

Check your ROM version in PS2 Menu (press ▲ button and check which version of PlayStation Driver do you have). If it is v2.30 then you will not be able to run FMCB.

You can also check the chassis model of console on the down side of your PS2.
You can find it on the bottom of the sticker. It should look like something like this:

S-081-809-01 G F0XC

G says that console is G-chassis model. If you see R letter, then your console is R-chassis model etc.
If it is R-chassis model, then it does not support FMCB.

Also, I do not think it is the fault of Memory Cards if they work properly during gameplay.

Ok, the Driver version is 2.0. But the chassis model is a "R" :(

So it looks like your console can be incompatible with FMCB, but I may be wrong.

Does any of your friends own a PS2 (make sure it is compatible with FMCB)? If so, try one more time run full installation of FMCB on your console. Then take your MC with installed FMCB to your friend, plug it into his PS2 and check if it loads.
If so, then you can be pretty sure that your console is incompatible with FMCB.

You can still use tools like Swap Magic or a modchip to run PS2 game copies.
You can also buy another PS2. PS2 consoles are not really expensive today and many of them can be already bought modded with FMCB/modchip.

The Series 9000X series needs to have a date code of 8A or 8B. You might get lucky with a 8C. It depends if was built Q3 of 2008 or later - meaning it won't. If you haven't got a date code of any of them, it's time to start thinking modchips!

FMCB works also on some non-original cards, but does not work on many false Sony cards !

Yes, but procentage of ones that can work FMCB is so small, that is better to just count like there is none lol!

Hmm. Ok. Damn. Anyone know where I can get a "solderless" mod chip? It seems like that's the only route I can take now.

Thanks.

Such thing does not exist for a PS2 slim.

If you want a way to run homebrew without modding your non-FMCB PS2, Swap Magic is the only way.

You can still run many things trough FMCB exploit. First install other tools, ULaunchELF, opl, pop starter, PSX launcher, cog Swap, etc. For example, i can launch PS1 and PS2 games configured to work through USB flash memory stick, or GBA emulator and games.
