Any good experience with PS2 EMU on Android?

Postby ShanDroyd » Thu Apr 05, 2018 10:15 pm

I've been looking at, obviously based on the title of this post, emulating Playstation 2 games on my Android device.
It seems the better emulating software is paid software and rather pricey.
Has anybody had any positive experience emulating PS2 on Android and can you recommend a very reliable easy-to-use easy to set up emulating APK?

I plan to run on my gen 1, Pixel Xl, using a PS4 CONTROLLER.

THANKS!!!

Ill go out on a limb and say no. I'm assuming the pricey emulator you are talking about is that fraud of an emulator "DamonPS2". They say it works but can't recommend a app that steals code from other teams, claim it's their own, refuse to release the source code, then sell it for a ridiculous price.

PS2 Emulation for PC is still rather rough. So don't expect miracles on Android.

Yeah, thanks
I was kina on the same page.
And charging for an emulator in general seema wrong, other than making donations to the dev.
I jave troed ps2 emu's on PC, but I only jave an old laptop and yes it ran poorly.

There's your issue unfortunately. Old laptop + PS2 emulator = bad times.

I imagine you want the portability but if its an option grab a phat PS2 off of ebay, buy freemcboot, and stuff a HDD into and you will have an ultimate PS2 setup.

Androids only real limitation on emulation is the hardware.
I'm currently able to emulate 14 different systems and they run pretty well.
DC, PS1, PSP, NDS and N64 seem to run alright on my TV box, PS2 I have roms for but have not tested yet.

Sorry I did not realize that PS2 was lagging that far behind in development considering the PSP can run lots of titles on Nvidia Shield completely playable. I've only recently thought about trying out the more demanding consoles.

There is one emulator I see that claims some games work but may run slow there might be a list.
It's called Play!
https://play.en.uptodown.com/android
play-0-30.rar

Any of this stuff working at any playable speeds would depend on your hardware and the software in future updates sooner or later droids will be on par with PC specs you'll just have to pick and choose devices based on what CPU/RAM/GPU the devices have.

I've found the following systems can be played on android devices quite well.
Nintendo
Super Nintendo
Nintendo 64
Nintendo DS
Playstation
PSP
Genesis/MD
Game Boy
Game Boy Advance
Game Boy Color
Dreamcast
MAME/FBA
Arcade
Neo Geo Pocket
Wonderswan Color
PCE
ONS

I'm looking to test just about any emulator I can get my hands on here lately for my personal TV box.

I doubt that Android would do a good job emulating PS2 when my Galaxy Note 8 struggles to run Saturn or Gamecube emulators at a reliable speed.

PCSX2 runs full speed on an Intel CPU from 2011. Something like an I5 2500k or better, and every game except for a small handful that have emulation issues will run full speed. Most (99%) gamecube and Wii games will run full speed on the same CPU.

Mid range desktop CPUs from 2011 still beat the CPUs they're putting in new android devices though.

I used to have an old Moto-E (2015), and Final Fantasy Tactics running on PPSSPP ran at better frame rates than the actual mobile port of the same game did.
