PS2 SCPH-50003 PAL Silver Chipped GH-026

Postby HaloSlayer255 » Thu Sep 21, 2017 3:18 am

Hello all,

Big shout out to our own TIZ user stillcool,

Was able to find a silver PS2 fat and I modchipped it, it still had its original security seal on it too!

Everything was tested from the seller and at first it was console only, but due to a shipping address issue (and slightly delayed shipping) they included a 3 prong power cable, a PAL game FIFA06 and also covered a little increase in shipping charge.

Anyways here are pictures of the installation: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rinb1a1ie8hs ... 3hKja?dl=0 folder "Version 10 PAL SCPH-50003 GH-026 Grey Wire One Side Date Code 3D Silver"

On wire "G" I think that is just a bit of rosin flux but might crack it open again to make sure, also added a little bit of black duct-tape to the top of the heatshink/rf shield to prevent the modchip points from shorting out at the top of the case.

Thank you all for looking at the work and install,

Nice, great work, now you need to find that Aqua Blue one, a complete one would come with it's matching controller and matching memory card.

I had an aqua blue. For some reason that is beyond me, it was more flimsy than a regular silver 50004. I threw the components away and I can't find the case for the life of me, as I have a silver 50004 that needs a facelift.

Speaking of modchips, I recently bought a NTSC-J SCPH-77007a (even though I'm in Romania which is 100% PAL  ) and it came with a Modbo 4.0 v1.99.

Is there any difference between 1.93 and 1.99? I currently have two PS2s modded with Modbos (a 30004R I did myself (you know the thread I guess) with Modbo 750 and a 79003 with a 760 that just needs a spindle) but other than the fact that both the 750 and 4.0 supposedly don't show the PS1 logo on PSX discs (not to mention they don't even patch the PSX mode like the 760 does) I don't see any difference. So, is 1.99 any other different than 1.93?

Thank you still cool for the info, found a lone blue memory card but it was $40 alone, little too steep for me atm.

Jonny7810 thank you for your patience in my late reply,
the modbo chip leather 1.93 or 1.99 are basically identical. However matrix infinity did release a 1.99 taiwanese language update for later slims. Some say modbo 4.0 v1.99 had a form of hdloader baked right with the chip and that it causes issues with the 9000X consoles. So the last official version is 1.93 for the chip bios.

As for the ps1 screen logo at game bootup, the clone chips either have the feature from the official firmware but disabled or more likely the code was not included. If recently found a website that discussed the manufacture of ps2 mod chips and the have the hexs for NEO4, Messiah, and Matrix Infinity from the original chips. Might also have a few more, considering sksapps, I got all the files I could.

Hope this was helpful,

Thanks for the reply. I think this isn't the case of embedded HDLoader because the HDL variant of 1.99 only came with the HD-Combo. Then there's 3.1m on the Modbo 5.0 which is probably 1.93 but with MASS boot option. (hence why it reports 3.1m USBADVANCE edition)

For the PS1 feature there's still something that buggers my mind - how come the 750 and 4.0 skip the PSX logo, and the 760 doesn't? I have a 760 and that one DOES display the PS1 logo.

Could've been worse though - Modbo 4 with the F point (there are some Modbo 4.0s with a F point). That one doesn't save settings and it's also not a Matrix.

Come to think of it, thats what my modbo 5.0d says is 3.1m just kinda hard to read it. Haven't used the 750, but since the 750 is identical to install I might have to hunt some of those down for the ps1 boot screen. Thankfully I haven't ran into a modbo 4.0 with point F, from what I read online its a clone of a dms chip.

Thank you for the reply Jonny7810,

The 750 is actually the "original" version of Modbo 4.0. I have a fat chipped with a 750 (I need to find another laser since the head on the one it has won't screw anymore - screw won't stay in there) and I can say it won't show the PS1 startup screen..

In case you want to have the PS1 logo show, you'll need to find a Modbo 760.

Some good news - bought a pack of 10 Verbatim AZO DVD-Rs. I'll check out on how good are those!

For the record, I have a v12 here that I might actually use FMCB on. Are the Verbatim AZO DVDs good enough for it not to warrant a SummOne fix? ("resistor mod").

Sorry for the delay and thank you for your patience Jonny7810. Never messed with the beast known as v12, I'd heard the matrix pic fix is the recommended way to go along with the summ0ne fix. I actually have some 12c508a pics but waiting for the programmer. Also have some 12f629 pics for ps1 modchips.

Also turns out I need to redo the G H I wires. The current wire melts might have to switch to ptfe or pvdf insulation for these mods, wonder what the radioshack wire insulation was, have aboy 250ft of that left.

And if need to replace the heating element of my soldering station, have three complete handles coming my way.

I'll probably go with just the resistor fix and see. I don't have any way to program the PIC fix and I've been told it's not going to be any more effective than the others.

That being said, I'll look into getting a 750 and possibly transplanting the 1.93 firmware chip from an dead 760. 760 firmware shows the PS1 logo.

Jonny7810 can you disable the "modbo chip" startup and boot logos on the modbo 760 chips?

these:

Holding the triangle and circle button, power on the PS2. You should get an menu. Scroll using up and down on the D-PAD to the last option, then press X. Finally, press the start button, then reset the PS2. You shouldn't see the Modbo logo then.

both will be gone? i know the other modbo chips only disable the startup logo but the one under the game boot under "playstation 2" still remains
