All images and youtube in that guide are dead .
Use my guide instaed , it is much simpler to use by newbies , link is in my signature .
And , stick with ImgBurn , it is better suited for ps1 games .
DONT use Alcohol, newbies cant find clean version easy !
From your words , it looks like you use win zip to extract isos , dont , use 7-zip , info is in guide i mentioned .

I have a chipped PS1 and some media won't play nice with it. I recall Phillips CD-Rs never worked properly.

I've always used Maxell & Verbatim with no issues at all.

I use PowerISO to burn my discs. Very simple and effective.

I also find maxell and verbatim work best with my setup, using imgburn on AWS to burn. That works best on my setup but your burner is probably gonna have its own sweet spot that you will find by experimenting and making a note of once you find the best setup for yourself.

I don't like alcohol120, its inferior to imgBurn imo but there are still a few here that prefer it or discjuggler. Problem could be that your laser is struggling due to age and needs a pot tweek, your media (discs) are not upto it or your burner hardware is failing, its not gonna matter if you burn with different sofware if its any of these factors.
