Problem Converting PSX Discs to PSP - Ripping?

Postby Xylob » Tue Feb 20, 2018 1:02 pm

Hey all,
Like the title says, I'm having problems converting my PlayStation discs to eboot for play on my CFW PSP - I think I'm ripping the discs incorrectly.

I've followed several tutorials on the procedure, but no dice...
It's gotta be the iso files, because I've already successfully converted several PS1 titles that I downloaded with no problems.

I've tried with iso files that I ripped using IMGBurn as well as UltraISO.
Then I run them through PSX2PSP, and copy the resulting folder over to my PSP memory card (actually an adapter with two 64GB micro-SD cards).
But 99% of the time, when I fire it up and go to the PlayStation games I can see them in the XMB but when I try to open any the memory card light flashes (like normal) but the screen goes black and nothing ever happens.
I have to completely shut the PSP down at that point, pressing "Home" (or any other button/combination of buttons) does nothing.
The other 1% of the time, the game shows up as "Corrupted Data" under the PSP games....

Like I said, I've downloaded several PS1 iso files and converted them with PSX2PSP and have been playing the hell out of them with no problems.
Shit, I even deleted language and padding files from some before I converted them - and they all work great.

It's just the discs I have sitting here in a pile at my desk that won't work...
Tried it with the 'ignore bad sectors' options both ON and OFF.
What am I doing wrong when I rip to iso?

TIA!

Not all PS1 games work converted to eboot's.
However, this could be down to COMPRESSION Settings used when making the eboot.
KILL the compression, try again, if it works, increase compression until it STOPS working..

Some games hate being over crunched.
Timeshock refuses to load if Compression is set to 7-9
1-5 work (with issues)

Or incompatible...

BEDLAM wouldn't work no matter what I did...

I've got all compression settings OFF
So far I've tried:
Raiden Project
RayStorm
Tempest X3
Castlevania SoTN
R-Types

same result for all...

I believe ISO files are not ideal for PS1 games. You'd be better off with CUE/BIN or SUB/CCD/IMG formats, try those at lower speeds.
UltraISO sometimes acts funny for me, but IMGBurn should be fine.

Otherwise, you might be unlucky enough to be trying to rip a bunch of POPStation incompatible games, or your CDs might be damaged, or there's a chance your CD drive might not be working properly.

If nothing works, try downloading these games again instead of ripping them from your own copies.

Hey Xylob.

OMG it's been so long since I did the PSX2PSP conversion thing my brain is hurting from trying to reconstitute the brain cells for me to remember. lmao.

I do remember there being a few different programs (if they still exist) and methods out there for doing the conversions. Maybe there is a flaw in your method/software?

The only other thing that comes to mind is that there are various popsloader plugins for the PSP firmwares that came out over the years. Many games have to load with the proper popsloader or they won't boot up. This came to mind because the blank screen/no boot situation you described is exactly what happens if the proper popsloader isn't set.

Iirc also if your folder name is too long it can make the game show up on the xmb as corrupted data. I can’t remember off the top of my head which psx2psp version i was using but it’s the one where you can easily make multi-disc eboots. I only use bin/cue file games as well. If iso i mount it first wih daemon tools then rip to bin/cue with imgburn.

Any games you’ve downloaded from here that you can’t get to convert properly? What converter and version you using? I’ll take a peek at mine when i get home. Good luck

Thanks all, I'll try bin/cue instead of iso.
I name all the folders with the 'standard' SLUS##### format, so I don't thank that's the cause.
I'm running PSX2PSP v1.4.2, UltraISO Premium Edition 9.3.6.2750, and IMGBurn 2.5.8.0.
