Depends on what consoles. Not everyone mods everything.. I only do PS2 for instance.

Repairs, depending on what's wrong, consoles are quite easy to work with, you just need a good repair guide and the correct stuff.

An Electronics NVQ type qualification is piss easy to get and teaches you all the basics :)

Depending on the type of PS2 depends if you can do ALOT more than play burned games....

If you have a PHAT 3000x-5000x model, you can buy a PS2 Network Adapter and install a IDE HDD (Max 750gig IDE) and play games direct from HDD - No disks required.
If you have a SLIM you can use USB HDD to play games. It's compatibility is lower than internal HDD with network adapter, but yet again no disks required !

Also you can do this to PS1 games too ! I don't mess with PS1 stuff from HDD so I know naff all about it, but other users here on TiZ use them.

FreeMCBoot Memory Card Exploit opens up the power of the PS2 and plays games from both USB and Internal with network adapter. Many people here can install it for minor fee to any official 8meg memory card (MagicGate).

Check this download and have a read > http://theisozone.com/downloads/misc/bo ... air-guide/
I use this guide all the time for issues

CMOS Batteries can be a pain, depending on type. You MUST use exactly the same type/voltage replacements (Info written on the battery usually)

thank for the info and link
i have a slim ps2 and will want to get it hard modded. reason i ask to play from disc is that i dont want a hdd connected to it. blank discs cost nothing these days so i prefer burning discs.
what modchip would suit? and as you stated you mod them how much would it be? my solder skills are no good as i broke a phat ps1 trying to solder a chip in.
as for cmos battery i have correct one but phillips in their infinit wisdom enclosed the battery into the cmos chip meaning you have to cut open the chip casing. its a real pain to do as i tried it and i fried t5he cmos chip.... talk about my luck

I don't hardmod my PS2's as I have Phats. The FMCB exploit don't work on 9000x series. 7000x series works

MODBO chips are good and are quite cheap. Wait till this topic gets going later, you should receive all the infos you require :) Just remember this is a world wide forum, and "Specialists" may not be online at the moment.

I just repair PS2's

FMCB cards are usually charged at around 5-7£ + £1 postage) depending on
a. if you supply a memory card or
b. if they supply the card

I get people to mail me a PS2 Mem card + SAE with postage attached padded envelope.
If takes around 10minutes to make and configure so turn around is usually FAST

You need someone to install the exploit for you. you can't do it simply yourself. The 70000 series in fine with FMCB

If you have the exploit, you can install more cards, but without it you have issues getting the data onto the card. This is why people sell the cards :)

However, slim and PS1 games, CHIP is the best method as you can use SP1and PS2 burned disks. FMCB is a lot more a pain to get PS1 games running

The problem is that to get that installer working, you need a modded PS2 or one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/PS3-Memory-Card- ... B000K1GZIU

The adapter works fine with the PC installer. Then when in the PS2 you can update by running an updated installer. This way, you can practice. If you mess up, plug back into the PC and go again from the beginning. The file you should use is here: http://theisozone.com/downloads/pc/othe ... installer/

Also, if you want to go the route of using the HDD it's easier. You can put the booting image on the HDD using a PC and just plug it in with no hassle.

FYI: IDE = Integrated Drive Electronics. This was a huge selling point for HDD's during the '80s. NEARLY ALL DRIVES NOW ARE IDE. IDE drives include: PATA/SATA/CD-ROM/DVD-ROM/BLU-RAY/ZIP/flash, etc. IDE does not mean PATA, even if the salesman tells you it does.

Modchipping a slim is expensive at minimum around $100 or more in nz dollars. There's a ton of tiny wires & joints that require soldering. If i knew then what i know now i would never have bothered with modchipped slims.Save your money & instead the cost of a modchip & labour to fit it could be used to get a fat & an hdd & an adapter most likely.More importantly the phat will be more reliable & a dam sigh more robust,so bite the bullet as do as your told young man ! young man! anybody get that joke if not reference the link

hello to NZ (yes I get the reference... Harry Enfield)
didnt know the slim was such a ba**ard to hardmod
Maybe i will have to go and buy a phat ps2 there are plenty on fleabay for about 100€ softmodded. and otherwise i get one of those adapters nodots suggested but i think i also need a ar disk to get all started????
If anyone can help me to copy the fmcb to a memorycard that would be the best option for me.
Maybe someone can offer this??? Will pay for any cost that occur

I would also suggest getting a phatty and with hdd and network adapter. Also Freehdboot which is the same as fmcb but made to run on hdd. In some of my prior posts I explained what I used to get mine modded on my own with some help from people here and Google. Zx was nice enough to sticky one of them. Search my posts. Anything to do with fmcb and memory cards. Can't remember which posts I put the info in but once I got everything setup, I was able to transfer PS2 games from my computer to PS2 with no probs. and all worked either through opl or hdloader. Keep in mind that if you go Free HD Boot the mod is probably permanent since it will all run from your PS2 hdd but for me it was highly worth it. :D

Judging from your low modding PS2 experience , yes , FMCB card will be best and easiest for you . Just find one of our guys closes to you willing to do this for you , send him Official Sony PS2 memory card and cover his expenses . When you get your card back , just stick it in your memory card port 2 and modding is done !
After that , all you have to do is 15 seconds work of patch game ISO before you burn it . ;)
