Sad news indeed.
I'm split on his films, some i like, night of the living dead, dawn of the dead, day of the dead and creepshow, others not so much, monkey shines, bruiser, dark half.
When he got it right he was very good, and has earned his place amongst the greats of modern horror directors/writers.

Off topic but Martin Landau has died as well, so i'm doubly gutted.
Loved space 1999 when i was a youngster, Martin was the man as commander John Koenig.

I'm a huge fan so it's a great loss for me, he went happy I've read and he managed to do pretty much everything in his life & more he wanted to, so we can all be happy about that.

I've collected his films for years through Beta, VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray and download for the few really hard to find ones and have everything apart from a few of the early short films, including the not that great ones. Some of the notable ones are 4 different prints of Dawn of the Dead on DVD, 3 different worldwide issues of Land of the Dead with different extras, 2 disc unrated US Survival & Diary of the Dead, ones in a tin I think, luxury Martin with postcards & posters, 3 different prints of Night of the Living Dead (1968), the list is nearly endless.

Martin Landau I didn't know about and I've found he was very busy with projects in pre-production so that might be a problem for some in tinsel town, he was brilliant in Space 1999 and Mission Impossible, another great gone.

Space 1999 was THE sci-fi series of the mid to late '70s, at least in the UK. It hasn't aged well, unlike the original Star Trek, but there were some quality performances and Martin Landau was one of them. He was married from some years to Barbara Bain who was a main cast member too.

However he was most well known as a reliably good supporting actor in both TV series and movies, his Oscar was won for doing just that in Ed Wood. Sad loss.

It's aged terribly shadow lol, but back in the late 70's it was the business.
I'm a season 1 man myself, i find the stories a lot better and it has a far darker less campy/comedic tone than the 2nd season.

Season two was laughably bad even at the time. The introduction of the Maya character, a transmuting alien, whose father was played, with all his usual subtlety, by Brian Blessed, was a particularly bad idea. So Season one for me too.

My favourite character was actually Alan Carter the main Eagle pilot played by the ever reliable Aussie actor NickTate.

Maya was a bad mistake, a bit of a misguided idea that shouldn't have happened.
The whole feel of the second season was wrong, they purposely lightened the mood and it didn't work for me.
Best episode shadow, dragon's domain, i bricked it when i was a kid watching this lol.

Thanks for reminding me about that one, I remember it very well. Just the sort of genuinely scary thing I enjoyed back then and still do. A bit crude by modern standards but a bad alien consuming and spitting out human remains never gets old. :)

It would probably be censored now.
