PS3 Thermal Success

PS3 Thermal Success

Postby ryder4life » Sat Jan 13, 2018 5:18 pm

So today was the first time I would take the venture in replacing thermal paste. Never done it before but I seemed to have no issues. 3rd ps3 I got for the kids from a Co worker was orif in ally hitting 74C for the RSX and somewhere around 68 for the other. Replaced thermal paste today with artic silver mx2. First time ran I am hitting 54C CPU and 55C RSX.

Well done, It's a bit daunting, your first one but after that it's OK.

I've done 2 of my 3 Phats already + all my 360s, I used MX-4.

Did you replaced it under the heat spreader as well? Or only on top?

I'm curious because my PS3 is overheating as well.

You popped your Thermal Past/compound cherry! What did you use? Artic Silver? I use this Thermal Compound made from Diamonds and loved it. Never gets hot when I keep it ventilated.

If you come across a ps3 that doesn't improve after replacing the paste (which will happen eventually) you need to de-lid the heat spreader and replace the thermal adhesive....good luck is all I'll say.
