Differences between external HDD hub & external HDD

Differences between external HDD hub & external HDD

Postby Berzerk » Sun Apr 22, 2018 12:46 am

So I am looking to purchase more storage since I am running out of space when I noticed while shopping Seagate Back Ups Plus Hub 8tb external desktop for $159.99 other 8tb external hard drives are costing more my question is what is the difference is Hub added just a play on words for it or is there something I am missing can it be used as just a external storage hard drive? Was just wondering because it is a heck of a lot cheaper than other 8tb hard drives.

I already seen this and some reviews.Makes it sound like that you have to have the software to back up things. The way they explain it sounds vague and does not explain if you can use this as a stand alone external hard drive. Makes is sound like it has to be a extension of your current systems memory that you just can not unplug it and put somewhere when you are not using. Is anyone currently using this?

If it plugs into usb, it can be used as a storage drive. You do not have to install any software unless backing up system is your goal. I recently bought a WD passport external usb drive 2tb. It has the software on the drive but I said naaa I just want to use it as storage so didn't bother installing software. Now I just plug it in and xfer files to it and eject it when done. You can even fully format them if you want included software gone.

That sounds like it could be your USB port/s. Make sure they are clean or try ones at the back of your PC. I run both my externals from the rear as the front USB's play up occasionally. Think dust gets into them.
Try it on another PC or laptop to be certain. If it still plays up then take it back to where you bought it.
