update on that pc i bought

update on that pc i bought

Postby xcursion666 » Thu Oct 12, 2017 11:32 am

Ok so here's an update on the dell xps 410 i bought i removed the stock hardrive and replaced it with a segate barracuda 500 gb hd and installed windows 7 then i added a 640 gb backup hd a hitachi one
in the second slot inside the case so now it has a ton of space for games movies and music btw does anyone have any ideas for upgrade options i have for a processor in this thing obviously an i7 probably wont work in it but I would at least like to install something faster before i hand it off I've googled it a bit but i still would like to get your guys opinions

Also in case anyone is wondering why i didnt use the 640 gb as the main hd instead of the segate is because i didn't know i had it until after i had already installed win7 I was going through a box of miscellaneous pc stuff last night and found it most of the spare sata drives i have are 250 gb or lower so i didn't expect to have it lol

Dell support liason, Chris M, posted a list of processors supported by XPS410/9500 desktops HERE 65nm processors only for the lithography process are supported and must update to latest BIOS. More info HERE

Core 2 Duo E6700 or the Core 2 Quad Q6700 not listed but stated as compatible is the fastest supported by the motherboard. If you can find these 65nm CPU's at a reasonable price anymore, some older processors go for way too much $$$.

Good luck! Great find for the price :)

You'll need the heat sink for a quad core as well. The standard alloy without the copper pipes won't cut it

Wouldn’t bother with a 1060. The CPU would be too much of a bottleneck on performance. The 750 Ti or the 1050 would pair better with the CPUs that you can use.

^^ If you have the two slot space go for the 750 Ti its perfect.
