This can format 48bit
WinHIIP was MADE for HDL users in mind, long before OPL existed
Also it can format 48bit for larger HDD 's
I still use it on my SATA Conversion with a 2TB HDD connected via a USB docking Station on PC to transfer lots of ISO files
Guide to 24/48 bit formats
HDD's smaller than 128gig use 24Bit format
HD's BIGGER than 128gig use 48bit format
ie 720gig HDD = 48bit
10gig HDD = 24bit
THIS BIT IS FOR PHAT/NETWORK ADAPTER USERS ONLY!
SO you need some way of connecting your PS2 HD to PC - I would recommend a USB IDE HDD Caddy (Case) for easy transfer to and from PC
Once you have access to such a device (Or IDE Motherboard Socket - Set HDD Jumper CS)
Plus int PC and load WinHIIP (Win7 and above - make sure you give WinHIIP Admin rights!)
IF HDD smaller than 128gig select OVERRIDR APP as 24bit. BIG Drives Select 48bit
This way WinHIIP Can't wrongly detect size.
Tick Enable Extended compatibility modes
Select Drive button > Make sure you select the USB Drive
It may say No PS2 HDD Partition found, click ok
Now click the FORMAT Button making sure you have the CORRECT DRIVE SELECTED ! YOU CAN'T RECOVER DATA IF YOU MESS UP !
Once you clicked the format button it will ask you what type of format
Quick Partial or FULL
first time you use a drive, do FULL
then you use Partial to remove all the ISO's
Quick can do weird things on some IDE HDD's
Once done you will get 2 pop up messages saying DO NOT INSTALL GAMES
It's correct - don't
CHECK THE FREE SPACE TALLIES WITH HDD !
If it didn't, format it again (But it should be fine)
Plug the drive back into PS2 and load HDLoader 0.8c
It should now detect it and it will be correct size
HDL basically sets the drive flags so now you can plug back into PC, install ISO's plug back into PS2 and load em with NO Problems other than compatibility
To get to Compatibility settings in HDL0.8C - Press SELECT on a game
One last thing - the FIRST time you load HDL with a LOAD of NEW Stuff - It can take AGES to read and build the drive data. It's NOT CRASHED - MAKE TEA !
If you reset, next boot will take same time from scratch !
...on a 2TB drive this took over 3 hours to build the data HDL requires !
(Okay , over 500 gmaes installed, but what you want for tech nearly 20 years old lol)
