[ UPDATE - what a stupid first question to ask...sorry about that! :D Reading too many forums at once and answering several different Q's]

How is the system modded? Softmod or hardmod. With either what is installed? modchip model, modified BIOS version in use or name and version of softmod used, etc. HDD size..

Had IGR worked before without going to the error screen?

DOH!

I thought you'd said modchip but had a brain fart as most don't say anything about how their Xbox modded and expect to get help without knowing anything about their console other than "ITS BROKE"

Hmm...have to think....

May be the HDD going bad.

Or a bad connection, try re-seating all the IDE connectors: MB, DVD, and HDD.

BIOS Version Identification

When booting is there a purple Evo-X shield in the upper-left corner of the screen?
After the flubber animation, XECUTER2 instead of Microsoft printed under the big X logo?

Also, in UnleashX press the Y button and look for the line labeled Kernel Version (e.g., 1.0.5034.1), what value is displayed? To exit the system info screen, press the B button.

OK, it's Evolution-X (Evo-X) M8plus BIOS. It could be M8plus.bin for v1.0-1.5) or M8plus_16.bin required for v1.6. Some Aladdin XT plus 2's come pre-flashed with the v1.6 version. It can boot in v1.0-1.5 Xbox's. Not recommended but will run -- should reflash modchip with the proper release. However, v1.0-1.5 version will not work on a v1.6 Xbox only shows a black screen on bootup.

I'm not sure how to easily tell the difference between the .06 or .67 sub-versions. If it's the original M8plus.bin or M8plus_16.bin easy enough to tell there difference. Run evoxdash, download a copy of the evox.ini file via FTP, edit it on the PC and search for the the MD5 hash in the Current= line of the file.

Post the value listed?

If it's been customized in anyway using EVTool v1.0.9, much harder to determine. Would need a copy of the current BIOS.bin file. Can be obtained in evoxdash by doing a backup operation. C:\Backup\bios.bin contains a copy the currently running BIOS to work with. Would need a copy of that 256KB file.

Yea, UnleashX's XBE file has been renamed to evoxdash.xbe.

BIOS's have a list of replacement dashboards they attempt to run on startup. The stock Evox M8plus BIOS has the 1st as C:\evoXdash.xbe, 2nd as C:\AvaDash.xbe and 3rd as C:\neXgen.xbe. The BIOS tries each in order. If not found, try the next xbe.

As UnleashX was a late comer to the Xbox scene for replacement dashboards, most people simply renamed it's default.xbe to evoxdash.xbe. Thus, making UnleashX the default dashboard.

I'd download EvolutionX-Build-3935, extract the files, rename and/or copy evoxdash.xbe to default.xbe then upload the entire folder, EvolutionX-Build-3935, into one of Application paths/directories (e.g., E:\Apps, F:\Apps). Reboot. In the Applications menu of UnleashX, Evoxdash will be listed as RemoteX not Evoxdash because the XBE's title is set to RemoteX not Evoxdash.

The backup folder will be in the subdirectory where Evoxdash is installed on your system, as well as, evox.ini. :D

You can open the backup bios.bin file in EVTool v1.0.9 to check the settings of your installed M8plus BIOS.

EVTool v1.0.9 - M8plus_67_QGR.JPG

There are 2 different IGR's. I suggest Quick instead of more compatible.

Under LBA48 Support and Default Partition Table Options, the current partition setup will be displayed.

Your BIOS is setup for LBA48 67 not 06 (not a problem). LBA48 67 HDD configuration has partition 6 up to 137GB, and partition 7 takes the rest of the drive space -- partition 6 is F:\ and partition 7 is G:\.

IGR support is setup for More Compatible. Attached is a BIOS configured with Quick IGR instead. Upload it to the bios subdir where Evoxdash is installed; if not present, create it. Extract and upload the contents of the attached file and use Evoxdash to reflash your modchip with this newly configured BIOS. Evox menu System Utils -> Flash BIOS. bios_quick IGR should be highlighted. Press A to flash. IIRC after the flash operation finishes, Evox dashboard will reboot your Xbox.

Test your system with Quick IGR instead of More Compatible. Does problem go away?

No rename required.

I added instructions to my previous post.

I'm not 100% sure that this will fix the IGR problem.

The HDD could be going bad and is not responding fast enough for the Xbox to recognize it after an IGR resulting in the "Your Xbox needs service..." without any number in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

I prefer an error with a number like this image shows:

error screen - 21.jpg

Found this in another thread here at TiZ - viewtopic.php?f=33&t=64314
ricardo1984 wrote:Modes:
Off - Tap the powerbutton and the Xbox starts as normal with the original BIOS.
On - Press and hold powerbutton for 1 second and the Aladdin XT is activated.
Writeprotect - Press and hold powerbutton for 2 seconds and the Aladdin XT is activated in flash write protect mode.

Visual Mode Indication:
The power LED will indicate the current mode by different colors.
Off - Green (Normal) / Orange (HDD access)
On - Orange (Normal) / Green (HDD access)
Writeprotect - Continous flashing Orange/Green

I thought the chip should not be flash protected unless you held the power button for over 2 seconds.

Also check the evox.ini file for inclusion of the following lines:

Flash = 0xbf61,"SST - 49LF020",0x40000
Flash = 0xbf52,"SST - 49LF020A",0x40000
Flash = 0xdab0,"SST - 49LF020A",0x40000
