Wii U Softmod - a Good Choice?

Wii U Softmod - a Good Choice?

Postby mirko996 » Fri Jun 01, 2018 7:09 pm

Hi everyone, I bought weeks ago a Wii U for very few euros, full with joystick and charger, it misses the sensor bar, It works propely.

I would like to take it for some time, before it get tired of me and I sold it, and I thought about the softmod to play some game, emulator etc... like in the wii, i read about it and is possible to do it, but I ask you this:

If tomorrow i'll sell it, the value could it increase or maybe no one want it softmodded? Because I've tried to search on ebay a softmod or eventually a modchip (if it exist) of this console and I haven't found anything about it.

Could it be the risk to get banned softmodding the Wii U or only playing using downloaded game on the net (not original, just a copy)? I read about only using hacks, but i'm not sure.

Thanks very much!

Softmod it, of course.

There is no risk, online service for the Wii is dead anyway. You get a ton of good things from softmodding the Wii like playing imports, backups, playing with cheats and a lot more. Plus there are lot of games you can't even get nowadays in a legal way like WiiWare games that are no longer available.

Many people have no idea that there are a lot of amazing games on the Wii because they think the Wii is only about motion controlled shovelware so they miss out some great games.
Here are my favorite Wii games:
Spoiler:
Wii:
- Mario Kart Wii
- Wii Sports Resort
- New Super Mario Bros. Wii
- Super Mario Galaxy 1

Wait, are you meaning about Wii or the Wii U? Because i'm speaking about softmodding the Wii U...

I know about the wii and unfortunaly online services could be removed, but about Wii U it looks strange the online service are dead because is newer than "Normal" Wii

Oh, sorry, you meant the Wii U.
But, well, same thing goes for the Wii U
Get an USB Stick or Harddrive and pack it full of games, it's super easy with "Wii U USB Helper"

I have no idea about bans on any console because I never play online, no matter what system.

It's one of the best systems to have modded. You get all of the classic systems, DS, Gamecube, Wii and Wii U all on one system. PPSSPP is also in the early stages, but you can play a lot of PSP games on Wii U right now. As for bans, I haven't experienced that, but they can remove your softmod if you don't use the info here: http://loadiine.ovh/gate.php

TitleDNS "The Netherlands" (81.4.127.20) : (21 ms)
TitleDNS "Los Angeles" (168.235.92.108) : (161 ms)

I'd honestly recommend just doing this once to get online to download from the homebrew store, get everything you want there, then get offline, cause there's very little reason to be online on the Wii U unless you're really into Splatoon or Mario Kart.

there is no risk of a ban on the wii u. The wii u installs the games and runs them like they are the actual disk. Ive had my kids wii u softmodded for a few years and they play online all the time. Also installed haxchi with no issues .

The only reason to own a wiiu right now is due to the softmods available, all current versions can be hacked and it makes the wiiu worthwhile,

It's fully backwards compatible with the wii, Wii softmod and 90% of Wii homebrew, so you've already got the massive library of the Wii at your fingertips, you also then get to download and play backup copies of Wiiu games ( I mean supporting the developers is cool but the wiiu is dead and Nintendo don't deserve money on a console they dropped like a hot potato as soon as it didn't meet expectations...same with vita )

The risk of ban is almost entirely non existent unless you hack smash or Splatoon but even then, veeerry rare,

Still has a decent online community on smash, Mario kart 8 and Splatoon,

Not to mention it has breath of the wild, it's worth it just for that.

Wiiu homebrew though is lacking, which is why it's good that Wii homebrew works via vwii, but there's a few good ones, such as hid2vpad which lets you use any controller pretty much (including PS4 controllers!) With the wiiu, makes it much nicer for breath of the wild etc

Pretty much. I've played Splatoon via Haxchii without any issues. The one surefire way to get banned is to try and play online in any game with modified content/cheats.

great hack to play gamecube games using wii u gamepad screen and controls, also same with most other emulators.as for increasing the value,i don't think so,i had two both softmoded ,one I sold with 5 top games installed, mario, pikmin, breath of the wild etc etc and really struggled to sell it,let it go for £100 in the end with 3 disk games extra controllers plus a box of skylander figures so NO

Good, just take your time and follow a trustworthy guide/tutorial. Nothing to lose really by having a modded one as like the wii it will have little online support from Nintendo in a couple of years.
