This is a quick and easy-ish guide to anyone who has accidently broken a ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) connector clamp in a PS3 or have picked up one which has. For this tutorial I am focusing on the one that connects the Blu-Ray drive to the main board on a Piano black phat.

As you can see this one is broken and the clamp is missing completely. To fix it you will need scissors and plastic blister pack packaging.

Ideally try and find a blister pack packaging with a front and back panel and a seamed section like the one I'm using. The most important thing is the ZIF being pushed to the board to make a firm connection (that's why card and sticky tape doesn't work !).

Cut with scissors a piece 1mm narrower than the ribbon cable end making sure to include the seam and sections of the front and back of the blister pack.

Carefully remove the other end of the ribbon cable from the Blu-Ray drive if you haven't done already remembering it also has a fragile ZIF connector with a clamp so you have a bit of room to manoeuvre and insert the correct end into the PS3 as far as it will go and carefully insert the blister pack piece in over it seamed edge first with the curved part facing the PS3 and the spare part facing upwards, once it's in and feels tight use your thumb nails to push in from where the front part meets the back on the blister pack piece.

You're done, reassemble, providing your Blu-Ray drive worked 100% in the first place, it all should work.
