Postby pirate_tar » Thu Jun 14, 2018 4:03 pm

I have a game, that I want to burn to a disk, to save (it's on my hard drive in zip format), BUT it is 17.8 gig, I have a double layer drive, in Windows 7 X64 Home P. Need some help here, please. Is there a way to split the into 2 parts to fit on a disk (8.5) :? Thanks team!

You could split it into volumes using 7zip, then burn each volume to a separate DVD DL disc.

This should help you

17.8GB is the ISO, right?
Well, just mount or unpack the iso with IsoBuster, DaemonTools or any other tool you like and then copy/backup/burn all the folders and files.

Or just burn the Iso on a Blu-Ray (that's what I'm doing) ...... but of course if you don't have a Blu-Ray burner that's not an option - but you can think about buying one, it's pretty handy to be able to backup 22.3GB of files in 8-10 minutes plus the BD-discs cost less than a Double Layer DVD disc. (I bought my LG Blu-Ray burner in 2012 and it's one of the best investments I made in the past few years, I love it)

I take it you wanna store it, if so
Use 7-Zip at STORE Settings

Select the file(s)
Right Mouse > Add to Archive > Compression Level STORE
In the Split to volumes box you can type a value.

1M = 1meg chunks
1G = 1gig Chunks
1T = Terrabyte!

8700M Should suffice.

This will split the archive into whatever size chunks you want, 001,002,003 etc...
This method is handy for storing large images on a FAT32 drive...

Having the compression set to store means the file ain't compressed in any way, just split :)
(and it takes a couple of minutes to do compared to compressing it)

I would probably try to put it on blu-ray media, with a blu-ray burner, but I'm not sure of the reliability of those discs....
You could maybe compress it into 2 dl-dvd parts with 7zip. As it stands 17.8mb is too big for 2 8.4mb discs, unless compressed. Also not super sure of the reliability of dl-dvd's either. They have worked well for movies and xbox 360 games, but those are pressed retail discs not burned ones. Also there is a layer break...
Would probably get a blu-ray burner, and burn to bluRay disc.

You do realize spliting and saving splited game like this will not make game playable from burned disc directly ,so when you need to play game , you first have to extract it back to PC HD and join it again ,which will again require to have 18 GB of space on HD ?
If you want only to store ,7-zip and ImgBurn is all you need .
