Speaking of which, I have a PAL PS2 (a phat and a slim) with FMCB and I'm trying to play retail US and Japanese imports on it. You know how I can do that?

On the phat I don't want to use sliding tools or a flip top (the latter is pricey here anyway). I have a Dreamcast where I can play imports easily by swapping with the DC-IE boot disk, but I haven't been able to find something like this on slim PS2.

Taking all that into account then your best bet would be a mod-chip. I don't know of any import boot disc for the ps2 that works like the DC one. So much less (none) protection on the DC.
I guess you could download the import game and burn to disc with ESR to play on. Keep it in the case with the original and save on ware on the original disc too.
