Use good brands like Verbatim and burn not faster than half of the speed that's written on the CD-R (8x, 12x or 16x are the best, depending on your discs and burner).

maybe im the odd one out. I never have issues with any brand of burnable media nor is writing to the disc an issue either no matter what speed its set at. I tried Verbatim back in the day yes the good brand not the verbatim but bad brand. Had a stack of discs like 10 plus all be coasters in a row

Sounds like your burn speed is a tad high, as previously mentioned.
I always had success with Memorex and Verbatim discs at 6x and 8x speed.

I had no problems with Maxell, Phillips or Sony. I only had luck using DiscJuggler to burn the discs though.

Yup, verbatim or sony work just fine.
Slower speed is required and
follow the instructions if you burn cdi files with discjuggler.
By the way, some games I burnt do not work seven years later. They do not have any scratches but the lifespan of a cd is poor. If you can get a an sd card reader for your dc, no problems an

Yes Speed burning is the issue. I always got good results with a 8x speed. and I use some bad quality chinese CD-R. If nothing work, check out the imgburn software (download a version wich comes with the dreamcast drivers).
