Homebrew reccomended games for OG Xbox?

Postby XC-3730C » Sat Jun 02, 2018 8:31 am

Besides the obvious homebrew games like the Zelda trilogy, OpenBOR, Streets of Rage Remake, and Super Mario War, what are some good homebrew game recommendations for Original Xbox?

Out of this World X - requires files from the original PC game though to play using the distro available for download from TiZ.

Most of those old school FPS games I've played, like ^ Descent, work pretty much perfectly on the Xbox ie. Quake series, Doom series and Duke Nukem 3D. Wolfenstien 3D is the exception though, there are some downloads of that which simply don't work or work poorly. If you want to play it on the Xbox get Return To Castle Wolfenstein and a decent enough port of it is your reward for completing that (great) early Xbox game.

The Cave Story port is good as others here have said too and I had a lot of entertainment out of Metal Blob Solid (listed as BlobWarsX) so much so I actually replayed it on PC.

There are quite a number of barely playable or flawed (lousy controls) games in the Xbox Homebrew collections but TBH there are still plenty I've not still not touched so I'd expect there is plenty of other good stuff too.

Oh, yes I had a quick go on Skull recently. Seems to play well but not a game type I'd choose myself but it seems it is a Megaman clone and I believe there are fans of that sort of thing so it might appeal to others too.

Also had a quick go on AbbayeX a port of the "L'Abbaye des Morts" for Xbox. Old school 2D platformer/puzzler and pretty tough but played well as far as I went.

I enjoyed Alien vs. Predator, but you have you mess with the controls & see what best works for you.

XtecuterX73 has released an updated version (Xwolf3d V1.2) of Wolfenstien 3D also included are three missions from Spear of Destiny.

This is a full port of Wolf4SDL for xbox and This also includes support for ALL 3 mission packs for Spear of Destiny as well. Ive been sitting on this one for quite some time so hope you guys enjoy. The xbox has been deserving of this release for quite some time. I wanted to do some source and code clean up and fix a few issues before releasing this and now its pretty good to go. Original port was done by a600 so shout-out to him.

That's exactly the place I stopped test playing it too. Ducking does not work so timing has to be perfect to avoid the spiders(?). As said, old school tough literally just a couple of minutes into the game. You'll be repeating that section many times before you get it right. :)

Apparently you can finish the game in under 30 minutes but only once you've mastered it.
