This is more than likely a EMULATOR Issue than anything to do with the actual image....
Emulation is touch n go, and PSX/PS2 Emulation is a royal pain in the arse when it comes to PLUGINS

There's a Wii version of the game, and I have had a much better experience for Dolphin, so I recommend downloading Dolphin and a Wii ISO of the game .

not all games are compatible with pcsx2. you should check the compatibility list on the official website of the emulator before getting any ps2 isos....

This game is comfimed working on pcsx2 with crappy ATI board graphics, playing it now..

Check your plug-ins / setting, pcsx2 can require dif. setting for each game

Check out spectabis front end for pcsx2, can save individual configs for each game

Wii iso's will most likely kill your machine unless your running a Gcard using Dolphin

In the future when posting trouble shooting , Name the Thread so everyone knows what it is
Also give more details, what version emu, plug ins, Gcard, system specs. OS..etc
Mis-titled post are subject to deletion,
otherwise our trouble section would have 1000's of "help me it does not work"

moved to "troubleshooting" < proper section

One other tip, try older versions of pcsx2, 1.4.0 may not be compatible with that game. In fact, My expirience tells that 1.4.0 has worst compability, while 1.2.1 for example has good one.

I prefer to always have the newest version of PCSX2, don't bother with 1.4.0 or 1.2, just get the newest build of v1.5.0.
In the past few years I actually only had 1 or 2 games that didn't work with the current version at that time so I had to use an older version.

@Tarigan
here is the newest version of PCSX2
Try that SpongeBob game with it and tell us if it worked.

I just tried it out myself and took some screenshots while playing.
I'm using the newest version of PCSX2 from my link above:

I also had a black screen and freeze right after jumping into that portal on the left:

The game auto-saves in that room so I could retry it very quick. This time I changed the video renderer from "Direct3D 11 (Hardware)" to "OpenGL (Hardware)"

.. and it worked, after a few seconds of loading the game continued:

^ after that I wondered if OpenGL really was the trick so I restarted PCSX2 and changed back to Direct3D 11 - this time I jumped into that portal again and it worked also.

So the solution is - when that game crashes with a black screen all you have to do is restart PCSX2 and load your save game and it works.

I actually use 1.21 with a large set of plug-ins, had no issues.

@XAMX This may or may not work for others as he did not post specs or details

How would you know if he has a cpu supporting OpenGL and if...what version
DX11- same question
Also, the newest version of pcsx2 it more demanding on system resources
albeit better compatibility

I hate 1.4 personally, 1.21 r5875 has worked for most of my needs with a stock GPU
note** racing games with rapid redraw graphics will not perform without a Gcard

Platformers and the like usually will run decent on stock board if your system specs
are high enough, this rig is running an old AMD965/ ati3000 (my beater)
60FPS in this game
Troubleshooting requires specific info, game launched first time for me.

I've tried to play it with the pcsx2 1.2 and it work. Then i tried to play it again with the 1.4 version and somehow the game is working this time.

Then i tried to play it again at the games beginning, and when spongebob jumped into the portal in the games the games crashes again and show black screen but when i play the saved games there are no crash..

everytime the game crash i just restart it and play the saved games and it works
