Who remembers... Bleem!

Postby TuffasGong » Thu Jan 12, 2017 1:41 am

Was looking through boxes of my old computer stuff as I recently (well, like 2 months ago) moved into a new condo and found this. Who remembers bleem!? Man, I thought it was so awesome that I could emulate PSX games on my home computer while the PSX was still the top system. I can't think of any emulators that were pretty well functioning while the system was still current-gen.

Using it now it really is a pretty crappy piece of software, it requires the disc to be in the drive in order to open the program, has very poor compatibility (back in the day it played all the good games you would want to), and the 3D graphics card effects, while they blew the PSX out of the water back in 1999 are pure shite compared to the awesomeness of ePSXe. Little stroll down memory lane with finding this!
EDIT: Forgot to add that it was written in machine code (which is why it was SOO fast for the computers back in the day) and it is not Windows NT compatible, so no WinXP support.

Bleem was awesome. Also there was that connectix VGS or whatever for those colorful Imac computers, then was later hacked or something to work on Windows PC's. I preferred the VGS one cause everything seemed to work without much tweaking.

I remember it. It was ok, then ePSXe came out and blew it out of the water.

I remember when it came out. I wanted to try it but it was one of the first pay-to-unlock emulators and I didn't have any money.

But it's amazing looking back now at the emulators of that era. There were (more or less) full-speed emulators for NES, SNES, Genesis and GBC that ran on 200 Mhz/32 MB RAM systems or less. Genecyst, Nesticle, KGen98, etc. Good times.

I had the one for Dreamcast (for Metal Gear Solid and Tekken 3 I think). It was ok for it's time.

I think Genecyst was the very first Emulator I ever used, I should go install it on my win98 machine just for old times sake!

I bought this back in the day, but never actually received the disc :-(

Did receive an email one day saying they discovered that they had failed to send out my disc.
2017 and I'm still waiting for it to arrive :-)

Still, it was a great emulator for it's time, now if only there was an emulator for the Xbox..... :-)

Cheers, Ian

I just remember that Genecyst didn't render the roads in Road Rash correctly but Kgen98 did. But it was a trade-off because Kgen98's audio wasn't as good. So you had to switch between the two depending on the game.

I remember also there was a period where neither of them, easily the two best Genesis emulators, were updated for a long time. When Bloodlust Software just up and called it quits for unknown reasons it was a sad day. And then Steve Snake came back with Kega which evolved into Fusion, which is still the best all-around Genesis emulator as far as I know.
