How was it? I am a big fan of the Front Mission series and have played 3, 4 and 5. Picked up the game and translation patch a few days ago, but haven't tried it out yet.

Big fan of Front Mission series to, played 1,2,3,4,5 Gun Hazzard (side scroling shorter/platformer with wanzer that can be customized like in main series) and Evolve (FPS edition, i was not impresed with this one).
Front Mission 2 is a lot more chalenging, strategic and harder than rest of series. Enemy selection is Huge, wanzers,
Large wanzers (mobile weapons), choppers, vtol jets,
Fixed guns, tanks, Small repair wanzers. Customization is standard like in rest of series, new painting selection is added every second Mission,
battles and maps are large, battlesequences are beautifoul (much more that in FM3 for example) but, Unfortunatly, loading of each battle sequence can last betwen 15-60 secunds! Ultimate hits and history versions have skip battle sequence options tough. Like in FM5, wanzers have defense for each part and armour coating to (but armour coating just work for part that has that coating and only reduce 10% of damage). You can get up to 12 wanzer in your team, storyline is similar to FM4, you got two group story alternating, but unlike FM4, they merge in one big group near half of game. Weapon Experience is most important thing for sucesfoul character to survive, and only way to get it is by regular Missions, there is no simulator expirience. You earn weapon Experience by giving damage to enemies with particular weapon class, damage you give=earned expirience + some enemies give bonus expirience when destroyed. So, destroy each and every enemy you encounter, and maximize hp you reduce them. There is 3 weapon classes, fight/melle, short/Assault/rifle, and long. So, you cant have mish-mash setup wanzer with missile, melle and Assault weapons it will be bad in everithing . During battle, your attack is deteminated by level of weapons you use in that attack and HIGHEST level of Wepons enemy has. And other way around, when enemy strikes you, your defense is calculated by your HIGHEST weapon level, regardles what enemy is using. So if enemy attack you with missile lv 4 and you have fight level 6 and Missile lv 3, you will defend with fight and enemy will only have around 40% chance to hit you, and even if it hits you, your expirience advantage will reduce damage you will take by 10-20%, plus it will further be reduced by armour you have plus if Shields activate it will be more reduced (Shields in this game are semiautomated, when you choose to use, there is 50% chance it will be activated and it will reduce damage by amount they can handle, or in case of weapons like mashineguns, they can nulify damage. Also, even if you dont choose Shield, there is 25% chance Shield will auto activate, even during counter attack) . You need to stick with what character is good, strikers need to use just striker weapons and nothing more, Launchers need to use just Launcher weapons and nothing more, etc. That way, character will be alwais 1-2 levels ahead of NPC, and those 2 levels means a LOT. Character that has advantage in level get bonus in accuracy, evade and damage. Plus, ligter your wanzer is, more evade and accuracy has.Only exception is long specialists, they accuracy is same regardless of weight, and they are usualy bihind your tankers, so evade dont mater much, so fell free to load them to top with weapons, amunition and repair items. Plus some weapons are more effective against certain enemy, for example, mashineguns are effective against chopers any vtol jets while shutguns arent, but they are effective against fixed guns and tanks.
There is surrender option like in FM3 but you need special skill for it, on board cpu have special passive skills, battleskills are earned by leveling up in weapons expirience and best used in chains, while passive skills are earned by honor mehanic (more part you destroy, more honor points).Another very important thing is AP (ability points). If you dont have any AP you cant attack, move or even evade! Every hostile near you makes you recharge 2 AP less in next turn, while every friendly lets you recharge 1 extra AP in next turn. So, if you suround enemy, he is hellpless! If you muve in bunch, you will be well defended and can evade easy. Also, if you stick to places with high GEO(fields with good cover precentage) like forrest, edge of building or Mountain, you evade will rise even more.
Game is Japanese only, but all menues, battle options and selection is in English, while online story is in Japanese. Game can be playing just fine without story, but Front Mission Translation project guys who also translated FM5 also worked on this game. But, project for this game is not finshed, all in-Mission story is translated and in game, while none of betwen Missions story is not implemented in game, but they also relised text document with rest of story, i used phone to read story while playing game lol. Text document is included in english patched version i have uploaded here.
All in all, it is great game to FM fans, hard, but great game. I recommend to study net tips, becouse tutorial for game is not up to the task, even translated one.

^ ah, so long description and i still dint mention one thing lol.
Front Mission 2 also had player vs player option, where you and your pal load your game save files, setup wanzers, choose pilots for your team members, choose any map from entire game and go full battle against each other! 8-)

I hang out with Naruto: Rise of a Ninja. It helps to get my mind off homework crisis. Although, I order essays at custom writing service and have no more problem! ;)

I guess you'll end up playing both sequels. All 3 Golden Sun games are pretty good :)
