Iso7z - plugin for 7-Zip

Postby Dec » Tue Jul 17, 2018 3:40 am

Hello, world.

I want to introduce my little creation - a plugin for 7-Zip that allows you to work with raw disk images (CCD/IMG, CDI, CHD (v4), CSO, CUE/BIN, GDI, ISZ, MDS/MDF, NRG). The plugin consists of two parts. The first part allows you to open raw disk images as archives. The second part allows you to compress raw disk images the most optimally. (New users cannot post links so screenshots can be found on home page.) Plugin home page - tc4shell dot com/en/7zip/iso7z/ I hope the plugin will be useful to you. Ready to answer on any question.

Why do you think so? I already introduced my plugin on official 7-Zip forum but there no one said that it smells - sourceforge dot net/p/sevenzip/discussion/45797/thread/38fb8079/

Looks like a nice little plugin, will give it a try. Always nice to be able to snag files out of a disc image without mounting.

Just because your not a member here until now and your asking him to go on an outside source which requires install of other programs. We get alot of spam/dodgy links here from new signups, all of which are removed by the mods.

I personally wouldn't touch this one until its uploaded here as a newer version of 7zip and confirmed ok....

.....but i am a paranoid old git

You always can use VirusTotal.com or alternative ways to check the "program".

Erm, sorry. To be exact for you I'm talking about a version with the pluggins installed. Like our version here on tiz of imgburn v2.5.8 with cd plugin files already installed. As i say its just how i prefer things as i don't like downloading stuff from elsewhere. I like to stick with TIZ and our new site when it takes over and TIZ ceases (TIZ has already ceased allowing uploads).

Welcome to TIZ btw.

.... I don't get why you'd need a plugin ....

Compressing ISO files to 7z is very simple, even to get a good compression rate.
I don't see the point... However, I'll check this out just for the wtf value, never know it could be a nice addition... or total pain in the arse...

You got my attention at CHD (v4) - images used by MAME CHD support...

The plugin allows you to open disks as folders. If you do not need this feature, then you really do not need the plugin.

Plugin was developed for optimal RAW images compression. Using the plugin for ISO images will not improve the compression ratio. For RAW images difference with standard LZMA2 method can be 100Mb. Imho 100Mb is very good improvement.

This is not a new concept srry to say here

Lots of gaming front ends already do this
Weve been using a 7z.dll inside hyperSpin for years to handle images.

Interesting at any rate, I'll take a look as well.. let you know:D

First look at your site...I can see this post is an Advertisment...
There are quite a few "Multi-extractors" out there now atm free

With that said, i don't use any of em.
Most are "portable" and do not need installers

I think im all set with testing this particular one...PASS

I never said that plugin is a new breakthrough concept :) Developing is just my hobby, and this plugin (and all my other plugins for 7-Zip) is result of my hobby.

Yes, this post is an Advertisment of my free 7-Zip plugin.

One plugin to develop, if your into this....

Batch archive to 7z re-compressor with full compression settings modification.
At the moment I use batch files to convert archive formats to 7z in bulk (MAME Zips)

There is a converter plugin but it's quite crap as the main recompression settings you can't alter.
Thus I use my own batch scripts

Zip to 7z = Best thing you can do to MAME.
You save a ton of HDD/storage space, but you need the right settings in 7z to get best compression. Dict. Size, word size, LZMA2 etc...
Plus if an emulator supports 7-Zip, use it !

This cannot be done with plugins. It is necessary to create a separated tool for such thing. (And there is one "bad" thing in MAME images - they are already compressed with zlib internally, and LZMA2 compresses such images bad.)
